build your own modified intake manifold

If there were companies doing this, I wouldn't post this thread but seeing how no company besides gogo has stepped up(and who can afford over $1000 for a intake) I cut into one this morning. My total time into this intake so far is 30mins. All I used was a $69.95 noname portable band saw to cut the top off, then a drill press to drill out the dowls. Then a grinder to clean up the shape edges inside.

Now I need to go buy some 1/4 aluminum plate, cut to size and have tyler weld the tops on. I don't see were or why a person needs a expensive milling machine, of expensive bits.

Ur local NAPA store will carry copper washers the right size, may have to trim the bolts depending on how much you cut off the top, but that's easy enough

Sounds just like what I came up with, the rtv did not like to hold.

Glad to see someone writing this up a DIY. I've never done one, but I didn't imagine that it was all that difficult. I do have a mill though so it would be slightly easier.

Yeah, I've been on the fence about posting up. I wanted to have my ducks all in a row before I went public. If all goes well, my machinist will have one done for me in a week or so. I like the DIY project Shawn, but for those guys who are looking to maximize air flow, with minimal runner restriction, I feel that some other steps should be taken with a CNC inorder for that to happen. Very cool of you to help these guys out with a budget in mind though.

Yea the flow paths definitley dont promote easy flow of the air.
