Default PTM grill Pics!!

Im looking into changing my front end up some, and want to see some paint to match grills and front ends. Preferably the 1999 to 2007 trucks.

My truck is white, so white trucks would be awesome. But i can get the idea from other colors as well.

Post up your front end shots. Thanks.

That looks nice. Im debating on painting the one i have, which is the same as yours. Painting the outer part white and having the billet insert powder coated black. Your truck looks awesome.

Id paint what ya got already first. If ya dont like it you arent out much.

When I put my 07 headlights in I debated getting an 07 grill but didnt see how to have black and chrome on that grill without buying chrome and cutting the whole middle of the grill out and putting a black insert in. I painted the center of my grill and left the chrome. It looks pretty cool I think.

Yea, see i have the chrome like yours and black insert. I dont mind it, but i hate chrome. So im trying to paint my original one white, or black and figure the insert color out from there.

Or buy a new xl and make my own insert like someone did on the nation and do the same with it color wise.

Whats the deal with that bumper? Is that staying?

All white grill, 07 style. Or do a rbp style black insert. Hint:you can buy black mesh from royalty core. They also make.some awesome.grills.

The bumper is staying for now. It is for sale, but not in a huge hurry to sell until my new one is built and coated.

I think all white would be too much, especially with the bumper being all white.

I really want to get rid of the chrome piece. Probably paint white. I dunno

I love your truck.

Thats really close to the look i want. Only difference would be the insert being gloss black. Very nice tho.

What style grill is that Gare?

Dude. Cut you header panel and drop in 05 up harleys ( or Eagle eyes like me).

It would look great with the dark shadow gray.

Here's the white one I built

And here's the black one I also made. I didnt want to just paint the white one black just in case I liked the white more. And I changed up the bolt placment a little.

This is exactly what i wanted to do. Make my own insert with the white outside, and black inside. And maybe buy a new ford emblem, paint it white with black ford lettering to break up all the black in the middle of the grill.

Thanks. Toying with blacking out the center section and side vents. I hesitate because I'm afraid it may be too 3rd gen dodge with black grille.

I think it would look awesome if you left the outside ptm, and the grills black. And to break it up ptm a emblem for the middle.

If you want to make your own grille insert like mine its not to bad just a lot of cutting with a dia grider and I went and bought a bunch of different attachments to round the corners out nice and the drilling all the holes for the bolts is kinda a pain. I'v made 4 of them now one for a 2003 grille 2 2005 grilles and one 2004 duramax. The durmax one turned out nice to I made it a one piece instead of having the upper and lower grille.

I like how you ran the white. Most people would have gone black. The black looks friggin great too, especially from the front. When you can see the side of the truck the customness is lost on me with the black, especially when its 2tone. So good on ya for that attention to detail. Perfect execution!

I want to try building on like akhilf. But for right now, im going to paint my chrome piece white and see how much i like it. Then im building on like his.

To be honest I have atleast 8 hours in each grille maybe more than 10, but also a couple cases of beer. And when it comes to my truck everything has to be just right so that made the cuts and planning the bolts take longer. The mesh was the easy part. The white grill I did out of an xl grill and its a litte floppy but you cant tell once its bolted down, and the black one was started with a xlt chrome grill and I sanded all the chrome down. I like how stiff it is. So a stock ptm grille would be best but not needed if you cant find a good deal on them. Oh and each one of these grilles have If I remember right 128 bolts and are all stainless. I'd sell the white one but I think shipping would be a pretty penny

If i do mine like yours, or play around with one. I will have a piece cut on the laser cutter and just mark the holes on the grill from that. Should help make my life easier.

Where did you get the mesh from? I want to see about doing something different. Like maybe have stainless cut, with little ford ovals on the whole thing or something else thats really unique but not over board or gody or hickish.

I work at a place called alaska steel and i'm the guy who runs the laser table and I dont think it would be worth cutting out a piece just to mark hole. It's not to bad measuring. And i'v tried two different mesh's first was a square expanded metal and now I run 1/2-13 raised expanded metal. It's a lot easier to work with and you can get it pcoated or chromed if you want. There are some websites that sell mesh specifically for making your own grilles but since I work where I do it's not worth it. Just call up your local metal distributer.

What i ment by making something with holes and measure off of it, was that "that" piece with holes would actually be part of the grill. Im not sure if you seen the one someone made on the nation, but he used a very thing piece of stainless and bolted it to the outter part of the grill and the mesh was welded to that. I thought it looked good, but not sure if that is the route i end up going.

I found a better price on Rock Auto for the header panel for a 05 so now i can have my headlights pointing the right direction. But can i reuse my old grill with the newer header panel.

If not, the same site also has the Harley grille with billet insert for $75. Im hoping its not just a cheapo. I would like to buy that and paint it white to match the truck with a black insert, white emblem with black ford lettering.

What do you guys think?

Go for it! That's what mine is, just painted AZ Beige, and then I Plasti-caoted the plastic "billet" insert. I've been very happy with it. I just wish mine would have only cost $75 that's a great price.

This is shortly after I did the plasti dip, not the best photo ever, but you get the point.

Gare, I want to do exactly that to my 08 tailgate. But a black emblem on a sea of black grille, i just dont think would look good. It might, hard to say tho.

I figured the white emblem with black letters would break up the whole black hole look on the front just a little bit.

I have black ones on my tailgate, I really like the way they look, but there not for everyone.

Would you send me the info too. I would be much happier to save some money over billet badges right now.

Well, yes i do. My original one is kind of chopped up, and to properly be able to adjust the headlights i was told to get the newer one that was made for the headlights. Are they that different of what. I know i can not adjust my light now.

I have been trying to contact certifit, their website sucks ass too. And they had a busy signal for the last 40mins

Its just 3" tall plate, 3/16" I believe, cut to fit on the pinch weld, with holes drilled to bolt through the existing holes. When I first made the plate I used lights that bolted to and mounted from behind the plate like in the following pictures. I repainted and rewired it a year ago using some different lights that bolt to the front with a cover that snaps over them covering the bolts, this is what is in the picture you quoted.

Original mock up.

Sorry Junior, derail over!

I dont care about derails, infact its pretty interesting stuff here.

And im pretty bad at derailing other peoples threads, so its ok in my book. Im just glad its decent stuff and not YOU KNOW WHO doing it.

Those pinch weld covers are pretty cool. I would like to do something like that, but maybe just some white lights tucked out of view, so when the doors are unlocked they would come on and light up the under neath for being able to see ice, or what ever while getting in and out of the truck. Could have a flip switch on them, incase i need to make repairs at night, then they could be turned on.

I think it would look good! Red is so hard to work with! Black looks good with it but it has to have the right red contrast!

I was going for the RPB style when I built it. I like how the retainer is visible gives it a "industrial" look that I like.

Did you cut the factory header panel? And also with the new header panel the grill won't clip at the bottom.

Yea I cut the factory header panel, looks like I might just do the front end conversion considering I have to replace the dented up bumper anyways

Alot of nice front ends here.

Good news tho, buddy of mine just gave me a newer xl grill. It was hanging on his wall in the garage and i said something and he just told me to take it. I offered money and he refused. So i will be buying a newer header panel and making my own RBP style soon as the bumper is done.

Well the lights I have are one peice projector lights that listed as 99-07 super duty. On the back of the head lights the adjusters seem like it just focuses the light more not move up or down but I also haven't had time to fool with em much so I might need to just try it again

It's super easy, just take the grill out, lay it face down, you'll see the clips, it comes out, new one in, slap it back in the truck. You don't really need any directions, it's that easy.

I have had the grill as a whole off when I did my lights, but the separating the surround to change to a PTM is what I am referring? There are no clips on my new surround to snap back in. Are you referencing that as well? Thanks!

Looking good. How well does the plasti dip hold up to abuse on the grill?

Truck looks great, not normally a fan of the 08 mirrors on these trucks but they really look good on yours. I plasti dipped my whole grille about a year and a half ago. Held up great for a lot longer than I thought it would. Starting to peel pretty good now but that's partly due to the truck being worked on and getting rubbed.
