Default What is your next planned modification

I think most know my next modification in progress it converting my truck to a Dana 60 front end and most likely a Sky RSK suspension with Bilstein shock. I am curious to hear what some of you other OBS guys are looking at doing next. My other smaller project in the works is the Dieselsite HPOP adapter. I have the parts for it here, I just need to doing a little fabrication for the EBPV and Engine Cover Bracket.

Thinking of stripping every badge and letter off the OBS and havin it hit with another coat or two of white to freshen it up.

Then new mirrors, clear headlights, and either a billet style grill (depending on what's available) or painting the grill inserts white as well.

A transmission, or all my front end bushings. Both need to be addressed in the near future...

Got some big plans for this summer. Stuff i know i'm doing: DIY Gen 3, E-fuel, gauges, decent sound system, decent rims, and traction bars. Stuff i wanna do is get my spare motor checked out and drop it in, 300/200's, built tranny, and a different turbo(2.6 size). Then hopefully what ever i don't do this summer will get done by the end of next summer. Really wish i could drop out of school and work full time.

I am trying to decide....I have a non-ebpv pedistal on the shelf but am not looking forward to removing the ebpv pedistal. Injectors come to mind as does a BTS valve body

I'm starting over again with my recently acquired 97.
Get my gauges and exhaust installed, tunes, injectors, possibly E-fuel, ditch the billet grille, ditch the big ugly bumper, new clutch before the DMF grenades... probably more I'm forgetting.
I also would like to get a 4" lift, 35's on 17's, and try my hand at a custom overhead console build to house my CB and some other things.

Just did a Brite Box last week, I haven't even gotten to drive in the dark with it yet.

Next is Air Ride helper springs and Better Ladder bars! I hate these Cal-tracs so much, I'm pretty sure it hops worse now with them than it did without them.

Then I want to get up to a larger injector(probably 250-300cc) with 200% nozzle, head studs, valve springs. That will most likely require a larger fuel pump and HPOP then.

Lasty on the very long term list I have a 4R100 core to built and swap in with a PCS

I've heard of the saginaw on gassers but never a diesel...wonder if its something I should look into?

Not sure on the ram size as Im still researching all options. Do you have a hydro setup on your bronco? What did you go with?

I had not read a lot of bad comments about the Cal-tracs that is interesting. The only one I had see for a while was noise.

Got my rear axle out for a rear disc brake conversion using a combo of Ford van rotors with SD calipers.

Also have to neaten up the wiring when I converted to SD valve cover gaskets.

Then finish my on board air system with in cab controls for the air bags.

There is also a Coolingmist EGT system sitting on my bench to install too.

It has to be something in my truck I guess. I've met and talked to John Calvert in person at PRI the year I put them on, they sent me longer bars, different pivot brackets, I've tried different tires, adjusted them up and down until my face was blue and yet my truck on a launch will hop and buck like crazy

Here is the write up I'm going by

I made my own axle flanges and used the van brackets but for the rest I used rear SD truck parts. They were same as the van except for pad shape and the auto stores stock SD parts but not van parts. I'm taking pics and will post them up when I'm done - hopefully for next weekend!

Personally I think I would rather do Hydro boost than rear disc conversion. I have no problems my rear drum brakes.

I was wanting to put on an Adreneline pump, but I found a small rust bubble so some paint and body work may come first.

Well my 97 CCSB has turned in to a every weekend project
So far in the past 3 months of owner ship i have
Replaced rear brakes an hardware
replaced pass rear axle seal
replaced rotted diff cover with 08 aluminum one
replaced rotted rear spring hangers and shackles
Rebuilt a 95 D60(ball joints, u-joints, axle seals, spindle seals/bearings, pinion seal, wheel bearings, calipers, rotors, built a NEW passenger side u-bolt plate)
replaced the BEAT TTB D50 for a D60 and a RSK and SD springs
Pulled the weak stock clutch, replaced it with a new VLAIR organic one w solid flywheel, had the trans rebuilt, put on F350 front yolk, and put on some ****TY fitting MBRP exhaust.

I still need to put in my gauges and mount my F4 DP tuner(have the gauges, pod and tuner)

Also need to rebuild F350 drive shaft.

Add air ride helper bags.

this weekend i also picked up a spotlessly clean short bed, rad support and a pair of fenders that will get painted, along with the rest of the truck. Also sandblast and paint the frame while the truck is tore dwn

Also this weekend while test driving it(300+ miles) i somehow had the heater hose rub thru the idler pulley. Replaced that but the rest of the hoses need to be done.

Really didnt want a project but it will be super nice when done

Studs, springs, push rods. Also need to upgrade lines and pump on fuel system. I may pull the motor to clean up some oil leaks that happen during winter months, but haven't decided yet.

May I ask why you did that? Is there an advantage to the SD over the OBS?

I know how that feeling goes Brad. But right now I don't know what looks better, your blue/white 460 or your new CCSB. Sharp trucks for sure.

Yes on an un balanced engine. No on a full build that is freshly balanced from the machine shop.

My next mod will be the less miles mod. My OBS has the 250k blues (squeaks, rattles, etc.) Since it will be a good while before I can swap trucks, the one mod I would consider would be 3:55 gears. 4:10s with the power I'm at now aren't needed and I would enjoy the quieter cab (less RPMs) and better mileage.

Same here. Updating this and that due to the mileage. Also swapping to 3.55's at some point for the same reason. I can still pull anything I want to with them because of the power the motor has. 4.10's aren't really needed anymore.

Hypermax Stage 1's and Tyrant tunes are on their way to me as we speak. E fuel system is slowly getting pieced together, then a clutch is next.

Just finished up install of Luber-Finer Zgard 9750 remote by pass and have integrated use of Fleetguard LF9691 Venturi combo standard and stack plate by pass filter in stock location. Next up is R&R of steering box and pump with install of hydraulic assist. Gonna tear down spare box to rebuild so may as well drill couple of holes tap hook up hose and ram....

Sorry Powerstroke Cowboy....R&R means repair and replace....

I think my steering pump is leaking at the reservoir to pump interface and will require a large o-ring to fix. Steering box is leaking by the sector shaft seal I think so means I would have to tear the box out dis assemble and if I do that may as well R&R all the seals etc. Moreover drill, tape two holes in the box, hook up two hydraulic lines to a ram and connect the ram from diff cover to tie rod for hydraulic assist steering. Less steering effort, easier on box no need for steering dampner.

I am going to take my exhaust back out behind the wheel. I sick of my back wheel and tire being black. What used to take 2 or 3 three weeks to get black now takes 2 or 3 days. I think the same time that I do my exhaust I am going to install a 4 gauge pod and put a Areoforce Scanguage in it. This winter I am definatley going to get a rsk kit from Cary, a set of new Bilsteins from Cary also, and a set of new Super Duty springs. After not driving my truck for so long I cannot stand the ride.

Thanks for helping me out there!!!!

Post op some picture when you are done. And some of HOW you did it!!!

THANKS!!!

My trucks going to the body shop this winter for a complete tear down and repaint. I think I'm going to go with a silver metallic because I'm really tired of white.

Common rail conversion, Install OUO's 12 inch lift kit with full coilovers, as well as new paint maybe tuxedo black or a deep deep metallic charcoal grey.

Hopefully heading to Unlimited Diesel tomorrow to get some injectors checked out. If everything is good i should be getting some stage 1's or 2's shortly, and dumping my splitters.

Two days after my D66 showed up in the mail I lost an injector. They are DIY Stage 1s that I bought off a forum and only have about 15k on them... Could probably fix them for cheap but why not take the opportunity to upgrade!

Now I've got a D66 on the bench, ARPs and 238/100s on the way, and I have a feeling I'll be getting a BTS within the next 6 months..... that was one expensive injector!

I should be getting my 238/100's hopefully next week sometime. After running a much larger hybrid on my superduty, I'm really hoping these work great for a dd

In no certain order to get to my 300-350hp goal:
Gauges
Built auto
D60
Onboard air
Front end protection
Baby Swamps/Rosewood Stage I
Efuel
IC
HPOP
Tunes
Front/rear lockers
Bigger fuel tanks
D66
Water injection - ?
SD springs - ?
2" lift - ?
Airbags - ?
Head studs - ?

Might even get creative and rebuild an engine to drop the goodies in and swap it in.

I mean on top of the swap, so what ever I'd need in the back to get level with the D60+2", providing it won't screw with hooking up trailers.

Still waiting on 1 truck to sell so I can finish the motor in my other.

I decided to repaint my frame, springs, axle, driveshaft, everything chassis related with Chassis Saver. Got it all prepped and degreased today and will start brushing on the paint in the morning. Planning on 3 coats with 3 to 4 hours between coats. Then going to topcoat w/ Rustoleum Satin Black sometime on Monday.

Additional plans: Sound deaden the whole truck (if I can afford it), SD 38gal front fuel tank retrofit, BTS valve body, new tunes from Cale, 08 diff cover, 3.55 gear swap, new hydroboost unit.

Motor work: fixing oil leaks!!, rebuild oil cooler, new injector o-rings, Smith Brothers push rods, 910 springs w/ shims; Melling LPOP, a little painting...

I'm pretty sure your truck is the two-tone blue I'm after for mine. Could you pm me with the paint codes when you have a chance? I'll be getting ready to redo mine pretty soon, an it would help out a ton

Because the Chassis Saver and Por-15 products will fade to a Charcoal grey color if exposed to direct sunlight. Both companies say that the products do not need a topcoat but they recommend it. Although a huge majority of the frame will never see direct sunlight, I topcoated it with Rustoleum to prevent the fading.

I don't see why it wouldn't. Actually it was recommended by both the local CS and por-15 dealers.

And several others that have used it as a topcoat that posted in my thread about painting the frame have used it with good success.

Nothing until i'm able to drive it again! Might sit for a couple weeks till i can afford to do some work. Want/need a built tranny but not sure if i can swallow that bill right now. But i don't want to spend much money on a band-aid to get it driving again. So i'm kinda screwed right now and stuck driving the D-max(which i love), or our old F-250(which i hate).

Ok, so I didn't stop with the Chassis saver. I'm basically doing a frame/drivetrain/suspension restoration at this point. Did the Chassis Saver then topcoated w/ Satin Black rattle can on the entire chassis.

Then decided to clean and paint both tanks w/ aluminum silver Rustoleum rattle can. Painting all the mounting hardware, straps, brackets, etc for my fuel system, tanks, and so forth with Satin Black Rustoleum. New Bilstein shocks are going to be added, Firestone Airbags added, and some more stuff I can't think of. Exhaust got a coating of high temp "stove pipe" flat black paint.

I'll have to post up pics when it's all back together. It'll look good.

Next mod is probably going to be a torque converter, cause mine is taking a sh!t. Then my 07 front end. Can't decide if I want to do all white PTM, or if I want to do a white grile with a chrome bumper... Decisions, decisions.

I would LOVE to see a 07 Conversion on a OBS.

As for me, I plan to put in my Injector this weekend. I just got my set back from Full Force Diesel. They are 300/200 with some Quick mods.

ALOT.....

Paint is horrible...

Interior is pretty clean...grey everything but the door panels....notice the perfect shape XLT grey trim....

Notice they are blue....

Worst spot on the whole truck...

Driver side...

Engine...turbo fines look brand new, no dirt/oil in the intake, no trash in the fuel bowl...

One thing I see it needs is an idler pulley

Injectors when I start having problems with the ones I have. All set for some
single shots then not much planned after that.

My next planned mod is to get it driving again!

But i did get to wrench on and ride in a nice OBS 7.3 over the weekend. A buddy has been having some issues so i had nate check out some injectors for him. So we swapped #2 injector, swapped IDM's, and dicked with some other crap. Sometime i wanna get up there and pull the fuel bowl and swap IPR's as i'm leaning towards it being the issue. Just gotta find out where in the hell i can get some fuel line.

Funny thing is his runs about like mine, but mine has a ****load of power. His has no power. Only thing i really haven't messed with yet on my truck is the IPR, and i'm now thinking thats been my problem. All that matters is its allowed me to get custom tunes and stage 2's, and blow up my tranny.

Other than a new tint job, I want to do stage 1's, electric fuel and 6.0 torque converter all at the same time. If I ever find an axle to swap for real cheap then that might be the next one...all a money problem, go figure.
