6.0 turbo rebuild kit

Is this everything Ill need? Have an 03 with some play in the shaft Look at this on eBay:

I can't open the link, but personally if you want it to last I'd just buy a used turbo with no play. They're a bastard to reseal/rebearing, and once you unbolt the compressor wheel it will not we balanced anymore.

Yeah, if you manage to get the wheel lined up exactly the same and the nut exactly as tight.

Well you didn't say you were going to have it balanced... But used 6.0 turbos have dropped a lot in price.

edit: after the cost of having in balanced, downtime, other cost, etc. might be more cost effective to buy used.

Not trying to be a jerk, but this isnt true. What nut, the threads are machined in the compressor wheel.

If you remove your truck's wheel and tire, will it not be balanced anymore?

Can you rotate your tires without rebalancing...

In what way is the shaft play? 6.0 turbos are supposed to have some play, just not any thrust play.

Forget about the nut part, was thinking about a different setup. Technically every time you rebuild a turbo, you should get it rebalanced. The compressor wheel is torqued on, then it is spun, cut etc... When you take it back off and put it back on, when tightened up it will not be in the exact same place. This makes it slightly out of balance.

Its okay if it has some side to side. The in and out play is what you need to be worried about. These journal bearing turbos aren't the tightest setup, and without being held up with oil it'll have side to side play.

Not true in a factory turbo. Its my understanding that the compressor wheels are balanced before they ever see a center section.

Comparing a turbo to a tire is hilarious. Turbos are balanced as a unit, if your running a spool do you put your truck on a lift and balance your rear tires as a one?

Its actually called component balancing and it is real, not all turbo's are made this way but a 6.0's turbo is. Look it up.

Dude, I was using it as an example of balancing principal. :doh:

Its funny that all of you are wrong here, but to stubborn to admit it. Compressor wheels are component balanced.

We are not saying they are not component balanced, but is it not better to have it balanced as a whole? Its your motor, stick a screwdriver in your turbo for all I care.just don't go telling everybody that you can just go around swapping wheels and everything will be fine. not all compressor wheels are component balanced as well. and comparing them to a tire...

Well, I guess Garrett really cheaped out on the 6.0 turbos if they component balanced them. I see Cat (some garrett, some borg warner) turbos every day and they aren't component balanced. With the high bp ratio these vgts face I figured they wouldn't, but maybe that's why they fail so damn much lol
