Default Project Overkill - Zombie Squad urban assault vehicle

I guess I've never shared the journey of my little war wagon here, which is strange cause I'm a pretty solid picture whore.

Gonna have to sort out some pictures from my laptop.

Had the stock-ish 2006 F350 Lariate FX4 SRW.

Got the rolled F450 service truck from work. one of the other guys flopped the spare truck in the ditch, with 55,000kms on it. Company is self insured, so I bought it from them.

Stripped it down, sold it out, kept what I wanted.

Decided to do my own set of 24" wheels. with 37/13.5r24 Toyo M/Ts. bought the 10 on 10 adapters from American Force. I have to say their service was top notch, from Florida to Canada in my hands 4 days after I put called and put the order in.

bought 6 new rims from a HD parts dealer in Calgary. They were on sale for $250 ea in the box. couldn't pass that up.

Cut the bead seats for LT 24.0" tires. opened up the center bores to fit the 10 on 10 adapters.

Got 6 tires - Used out of WV somewhere. for what 1 new one would of cost up here. So solid tires for the near future anyways.

minor tweeks along the way. swapped out the junk stock doorhandles, for a set of 4 solid aluminum ones. ******d all the lock cylinders as well. they're super solid in the doors now.

upgrade mirrors to 2011 power fold power extenders.

ok this will get a little out of actual chronological order here, but I ran it as a SRW truck for a time before I put the Dually fenders on and big rims. Got a set of 10on225 lug 20x11 custom offset steels from 1st Attach Brush Trucks. and ran 37/13.5r20 Toyo M/Ts. Just to buy some time to gather all the parts for the proper DRW change. It was crazy wide with the Super60 in the front on SRW rims. thats actually my the cuts outs are on the truck, I wouldn't have been able to turn. thats with a 6" lift as well. Still looked funny being 37s on 6" lift and still being wider than it was tall.

Can't be too prepared.

added the 1 piece rear driveline. 1480 joints. 5" tube.

added 4 LED driving lights in the stock foglight hole

Low beams only

with the LEDs on. really like the white light.

still have to rig up some proper mudflaps. 1 day driving in the snow melt........ I've got the giant meat curtain rock tamers for now. but its not good enough. and does nothing for the fronts.

Ok so I knew the dimensions were skewed with a CC body on a EXT cab frame. But with a welder and a torch anythings possible right. Building new mounts isn't a big deal. BUT, in order to fit the cab down low enough to appear stock, I would have had to C-notch the rear of the cab for each of the frame rails to pass through where it sweeps up sooner than a crewcab frame. After some long hard eyeballing, and for the sake of not reinventing the wheel. We ended up pulling everything off the 450 frame, and putting it all up under the 350 frame. And moved the spring mounts, shock mounts to make it work this way. I work at a large mine now, I've got an eye out for a F550 crewcab truck to yank the frame from when ever they go to decomission one. I'll airbag and link the rear at that same time too.

Oh the engine, right....... So the truck got a warrantee shortblock in 2008 in Calgary AB, at Univeral Ford with the previous owner. I got it in 2010, studded the heads, ******d EGR, H&S tuner, Rebuilt FICM with PHP Atlas40 tune. shot gunned a pile of small parts undates as well. blue fuel spring, updated high pressure oil rails and stand pipes. turbo oil feed and return. updated oil cooler.

It's been running good, no complaints really. stock turbo and injectors. no real drive to jack it up anymore than that, mostly because I'm slowly building another engine for it. You Pureists out there might be pissed, but I'm assembling a 6.7L cummins with a DPE 13mm Ppump built by Seth. 5.5K governor, fuel benched at 950cc wide open, billet quick fill cam. Colt - stage 5 billet Cam. cut and coated pistons. got cryo'd 12v rods. If and when those have a problem, I'll have to go with monotherms and billet rods. But we'll see.

This is the slow build part of the process. Still wrangling parts one at a time.

Not much to look at there I guess. I did upgrade the alternator a couple years ago when I had the alt get cooked. Probably when the ficm got hurt originally. Got into a 165amp unit at that time. Replaced the batts and pigtail at the same time. No issues since on that front.

The red 12v I had in a '98 Chevy crewcab dually long box for a couple years with 22" Alcoas and 305/45r22 Nitto 420s. Wanted a better truck so.pulled the engine and drivetrain parted that truck out. Then bought the superduty. The blue one is a 2010 6.7L that was in a racetruck in the states. Hurt #6 hole a little. I got a good price on it, with out electronics or fuel system. Decided to step up my cummins program at the same time for the new truck.

Can you post a pic or PM me one of the dually Chevy on 420's? That sounds like it would look cool as hell!

On topic, your truck looks sick as usual. I bet it will be even more fun with that 6.7 in it!

Thanks bud. Ya I'd say there's a good Chance you've seen it around Calgary. I'm around town often when I'm home from work. I live just outside of Calgary. Got talked into putting it in the Calgary World of Wheels car show this past Feb at the round up center. Took a 2nd place in mild 4x4 class.

Stamped in an ********** diesel tune yesterday with an SCT, set the H&S to no power. really wakes it up. really likes how the tranny reacts now. I think I'll stay with the **********.

Going back to singles is not on the agenda. And if it was I wouldn't buy them from American Force. Like my last 2 sets of big rims, I would buy new Alcoas locally and machine them myself.

I did buy adapters from them each time. Fantastic service. But for classic round holes, I can make the rims happen for a fraction of their prices. For cost plus shipping. It's a no brainer to do it myself.

What sort of set-up do you use to machine the bead seats on the alcoas?

And approx how much to the 1st attack 20x11s run?

I am trying to decide what look I want to go with on my next project truck.

You need a lathe big enough to chuck up the rim. And that's a big lathe. And someone qualified to use it, who is willing to machine DOT stamped parts.

And the first attack rims were really expensive too. But I needed something right away. IIRC they were 375 each. Powdercoated black.

I liked the singles too. But I'm a dually guy at heart. anyway it was too wide. Those were 4.5" cutout flares, and tread was a solid 3" outside of the flare. I was getting tickets and warnings all the time. And my paint was getting hammered.

I see it has gotten a few things since the thread on PSN. Very cool, I like it as the dually better myself to. But my opinion is a bit one sided.

Default Project Overkill - Zombie Squad urban assault vehicle

Last I checked this was a build thread. Not a finished truck thread.

Pieces of the pie will come in time. I still drive it all over the province. 1600 km to work and back every couple weeks. I did not rip the bitch apart and let it sit for 2 years. This is a living work in progress.

Yep. Minus the rack and bumper. That's just about what mine looked like as a single wheel truck with the 450 diffs.

Well that never crossed my mind. At all. Neither did pulling the latches or rods or handle. So with that all obliterated looks like this one is a wall hanger. But have another one. That's blue already and I'll make sure it latches after and I'll run it. **** ya 'eh

I am interested in the air ride. I am currently working on a setup for my 450 chassis that I am putting under my 350. Will be similar to yours but using a flatbed since it is a long bed and I need it to haul.

The frame side bushing is a highway tractor torque rod bushing. With an 8"x 1 1/8" grade 8 bolt.

The links are only partially built now. But they will be adjustable radius arms with a panhard bar.

Similar to this.

What are you making the radius arms out of? I'm wondering if they will be strong enough to hold that massive axle in place.

I am planning out a similar setup on my 350 so I might have a few questions as you go.

The radius arms are 2 3/8" Dom tube. Lower tube is sleeved as well. They're 67.5" long. Plenty strong.

Panhard bar. 36" long. Using Evolution Machine and Fabrication isolation joints. That's swank ****.

Bottom line is. It got a facelift and rides on air now. With Icon dual rates up front. Rides great now. Plants the power solidly to the ground.

That looks great, I'm very jealous mine isn't sitting on air in the back end.

Couple things I might have missed, what joints did you use? And can you take more pictures of the arms?

Used Evolution Machine and Fabrication joints on the panhard bar. And highway tractor torque rod rubber bushings on the link ends. The frame end bushings use a 1 1/4" bolt. The diff end bushings use a 1" bolt. Spun some custom sleeves on a lathe to press the bushings into. Had 1" fine thread shanks spun up as well to make the top 2 joints of the arms adjustable. For pinion angles. Panhard is fully adjustable side to side.

I can try. But it's turned out to be pretty hard to get a shot of the whole arm being so long and under the truck. The arms aren't totAlly finished yet either. Going to cope a couple pieces of tube still to go in between the upper and lower. But Ran out of time had to drive back out to the mine for my rotation.

Cool. Thing will be wicked with a cummins. I am working on a truck with my buddy now. ons w/ 12v. IDK what motor mounts you are planning on but I would stay away from the dieselconversions.com ones. They are pretty lame compared to detroked or autoworld.

I'm not rushing hard at it now. My injection lines still haven't arrived from Industrial Injection. Ordered them 3 weeks ago. Still waiting. They said they'll shop tomorrow but who knows.

Looking good.

Should squeeze an air compressor on the engine behind the hydraulic power steering pump, like they do on the med. duty engines.

For sure brother. As it replaces the vac pump on the engine. It's perfect for a superduty swap. The ford has the electric vac pump anyways.

I am hoping that I can incorporate one into my Dt360 swap. Then I can get rid of the electric ones I have now.

Things look like they are moving right along. How did the rear suspension work on your last trip? Any issues so far?

Got the secondary hung that about it for now. Stumped on some parts including my injection lines from II. Still waiting.

Ok ya. Haven't really logged in here since then. Kinda sat for the winter. Got it together this fall. It's come along nicely. Works really good. My bumper was stolen during the transition. Tracked it down to another part of the province. Hoping to have it recovered from the RCMP soon.

Went out of work for a few months there. So she stalled out a bit. Big tires be on hold for a while I think.

Is it a direct swap? Or do you need to change anything else besides the plug?

Pretty sure it is, just like the 05-07. Rad support is already punched to accept the adjusters and spring.

Ford has a plug adapter. The donor I got my stuff from had one on each side. Just an 8" harness adapter. Badged Ford.

Its been working good. Until last fall blew up the GT47. They bored it out and its a 82mm compressor now. She was doing about 73 pounds of boost.
