Anyone ever experienced this on a 7.3? I changed an injector on a coworkers truck today and this pulled out on the #8 glowplug harness

i know, i just held a 6.0 glow plug i had in my tool box next to it for demonstrative purposes, we didnt have another 7.3 plug, so just left the body in and will have to replace it later. ive worked on hundreds of powerstrokes and never even heard of this happening

Does it make it more likely to break when trying to remove the body from the head since that middle part is no longer in it?

Uhh would it not be pretty obvious if it werent? I mean it would be making an awful racket if the tip was broken off in the cylinder

Unless im overlooking something completely obvious, when the time comes to replace it, why couldnt I just use a 10mm socket like you would normally? The hex nut ( whatever you call it is still on the glowplug body)

I'd have bought a cheaply parts store and left it unhooked vs leaving it broken.

We live in texas, its hitting 100 degrees or close to it daily here, and will be probably till mid october, he isnt gonna notice that one glow plug not functioning for a while. And no thanks on a parts store one, id like to be able to get the tip out of the head when its time to pull out lol

The tip swells from the way it heats when in use. Its not gonna swell if its unhooked.

Looks to me, if you remove the center section, it is the tip. It is leaving a hollow tube in the head. Every compression stroke, you will be pumping compressed air and fuel up under the valve cover, thus missing that junk with oil. Not a good scenario, go spend 12 bucks on a glowplug.

Did that GP happen to come out of the hole with the injector that was replaced?
