Default 6.4L Excursion conversion

And so it has begun...

^^^ This is essentially the current status, and appearance of my '03 V-10 excursion, limited edition I bought almost 2 years ago with the intent to to a 6.4 conversion. I hoped to start on it a lot sooner, but time and funds went into my red '08. Now that I'm bored with that truck, it's time to start the excursion project.

Since it's my wife's daily driver, I will have to keep down time to a minimum. So here's the plan:

^^^Here's the project donor I bought from a friend recently, right after it got t-boned, which will be the source for the majority of the parts for the project. I expect it to be mid-late summer before I get everything done, but I plan on running the entire front clip, & drivetrain from this truck under the excursion. The frames are obviously different, and I want to have all the updates and upgrades from the newer truck, so under the cab somewhere I will graft in a rear frame section from another excursion. Before I start cutting up the excursion, I will finish the frame work, transfer the newer axle back under the newly spliced frame, connect brake lines, complete the frame electrical, build the new driveline, and wrap up whatever else I can before I get ready to set the body on. This will just be a simple splice through the windshield posts, and under the front seats. I've got some performance and reliability mods in the works for it, as well as a color change to come. I will keep this thread updated as progress continues.

We have been discussing doing one of these or a 6.7 swap into an Ex a lot the past few weeks.

Any reason your doing the whole front clip vs putting 08 cage on from firewall forward to the ex body? The frames will separate right behind the engine cross member.

It may be easier to swap the 08 front frame section on the Ex frame and not have to get another parts Ex.

I am in no way trying to tell you how to do anything, just thinking out loud.

Distance doesn't help but I have a few parts Exs if you need anything.

Looking forward to following the progress. Will be an awesome build!

methinks you're going to want to incorporate the 6.4 firewall section

I have a friend with several excursion frames with a fuel tank that I can get for next to nothing, so I won't have to disable the wifemobile until the project is further along. I was planning on doing the frame section exactly where you said. They aren't a perfect match, but close right there. the '08 has more bracing on the inside of the rails, but no big deal. It's just a matter of removing rivets, cutting factory welds, and hopefully sliding the new rear frame section in. The drivetrain will be removed for mods and engine bay paint when I do this anyway, so it should be pretty easy. If for some reason, there is an unforeseen complication with grafting at the factory joint, then at least I have the option of splicing it back a little further. There are a lot of other ways I could go about doing it, but I've had it in my mind exactly how I want it done, so this is the route I'm taking. Aside from having grade 8 bolts where rivets used to be, it will hopefully look like it came from the factory that way when it's done.

It wouldn't surprise me. he's done several roll over rebuilds. He's bought rolled over 4x4 diesels, and then cheaper excursions with good cabs/bodies to repair them with, so lots of left over parts. most left overs are probably from the older ('00-'01) ones, or base models, but I really haven't followed. He lives a long way from where I am now, so if you want something specific, send me a PM with details/pics of what you need, and I'll check.

Thanks guys. The 6.4 is with me in ND, and the excursion is in Oregon with my family. Once I'm done prepping the 6.4 here, I'll trailer it to Oregon to finish the body swap and painting.

I just plan on teeing into the the existing 6.4 lines, the same basic way it's done originally, but a few different bends.

This will be sweet!!!

I am working on the ground work to do the same to my excursion but I am using a 7.3 to make the project a lot easier. I have a wrecked white ex cab in my shop now to strip down to do the conversion.

Going to follow this to see if I missed anything in my planning but prob will not be starting my project for a few more months.

I agree with JD, roof AC would make it a winner as long as it's PTM.

Very cool, looking forward to seeing the progress.

Yeah, but not sure what I'll have left just yet. When I do, I'll do a separate thread, and post a link here. A lot of it depends on what happens with my truck in the near future. I'm sending it down the road, and certain aspects of it are going back to stockish. I may save some cool parts from it for the excursion. Others may or may not be sold. Just how it works out is very much up in the air at this point. I've lost interest in the truck, mostly due go how hard the oilfield lifestyle is on vehicles, so it mostly stays parked. I'm really wanting a studded 6.0 I can ride hard, and feel okay about putting away wet. Buford is just too nice of a truck for that IMO.

Seth: Why are you using the '05-'07 frame horns? I figure you would do a 6.4 or 6.7 frame horn deal to fit the newer front clip. the '05+ suspension will bolt right up to your existing frame if that's the goal. On the exhaust, I will likely do a 5" system designed for the truck. I will have a lot more room behind the rear axle than the average excursion as the RR shock will be in front of the axle instead of behind it.

Actually just building a 07 F250 ec/sb 7.3 6sp out of the frame.

I wanted to post a few pics and then compare when you do your conversion to the 08 frame.

To much sh!t to work on and not enough time.

Good call Seth. The way you split the frame is exactly how I plan to do it. As I mentioned earlier, I plan to use the firewall, and everything in front of it from the 6.4 donor. I also plan to use the 6.4 dash and front door panels. Initially I will likely run the older seats and rear panels due to limited time to work on it. Then go back in with new leather. Front seats will also be updated, I won't know with what until I see it. I would like to do a king ranch style interior, but I just don't know yet. At some point in the not so distant future, I will also update the rear door panels, but they have to be built, so that's time I don't plan on spending initially.

KR interior would be sick! I guess I assumed the rear doors used the same panels. I guess I need to look closer at my parents 7.3L excursion.

Rear does on an excursion are longer than a SD.

I have an 01 Ex for a very similar swap. Still waiting to come across a donor 6.4. Good luck on yours!

I thought things would happen a bit faster than they have once I started the thread, but this project is directly tied to my red truck being returned to mostly stock, and sold. I bought a little 1/2 ton daily driver I've been getting road worthy so I can disable the red truck as well as the donor truck for more than a day or two. The little 1/2 ton is just about there, so by next week I should have a few more things to add here. With limited available shop space, I have to keep everything I have going on to a single bay, so it's baby steps. That's part of the reason this build has a larger time window than my 7.3 bronco build I did a couple years ago. All this stuff has to happen after hours of my 70+ hr work weeks. It's different than what I'm used to, but still enjoyable. Here's to hoping for a notable update by next weekend

I hear ya on the 6.7. I kind of wanted to do one, but would rather not have to go through the necessary body work to have the updated lines in the quarter panels. I do love the 6.4 though, and the right deal came along, so here I am. I do want to get a 6.7 truck, but it's just not a practical thing for me in the immediate future. I'm sure at some point, I'll get one, just not one I put in my own excursion. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the aftermarket responds to the '15's though. I hope things start to take back off. the weak 6.7 market is discouraging for just about everybody except those in business with waiting, although challenging opportunities IMO.

I have been kicking around a few different ideas with some friends, and the more things transpire, the more I see the majority of the go-fast goodies from the red truck ending up on the excursion. It's one of those "why not" situations where I already have the parts. Reliability is a major necessity with the excursion build, but even at 700+ hp, I've had hardly any problems in the past 22K miles of sometimes hard use, and a few 15# nitrous bottles run through it. I may just go with a smaller injector nozzle (like 30% range) for economy purposes. Now the lift is gone, the truck is getting 17 mph on the highway (80 mph range), so that's encouraging compared to the hand calculated 8.7 my wife just reported the other day. She's a conservative driver too. Looks like I may just swap drivetrains between the two trucks before I sell the red one, then get the excursion conversion prep under way.

Ours is moving along fairly good. Didn't get to touch it for a week because of other things to finish.

Only ended up having to drill 4-5 holes total to get the radius arm brackets mounted. Rear half we used was from an 02. Only other issue was cutting off a E brake bracket that was welded to the frame. It has to be moved forward and cut down for the 05 up rear.

I studied a 12 frame we had on the lift a few days ago. The way they joined the 2 halves together is considerably different then the way these are.

Would make doing a 6.7 style front not as easy. Looking forward to see how the 08 goes together.

Pulling the trans and t-case tonight. Engine will be first of next week. Sure wish I had a lift to just pull the cab out of the way. Oh, well. With the drive train out of the way, it will be the perfect opportunity to graft the frame, and paint the inside of the firewall. Man, I gotta choose a color soon. This should be a fun little grocery getter for the wife since it will be getting the drive train from the red truck.

sell it when I get the ambition. I was actually thinking of selling it with the bed as it has nice line-x, and a B&W in it, and to a lot of body shops, the bed is definitely repairable. Short beds are hard to come by.

Thanks for the link, NorthCentral. I've got all the major stuff covered, so when I get down to the little stuff, if anything stumps me, I'll give you a shout. This should actually be one of the more simple conversions for me, just behind my '84 7.3L bronco in simplicity.

To keep in the back of your mind when it comes to wiring. Rear lift gate interior light, rear wiper washer, rear defrost, power out lets, interior lights, over head console, rear heat and air wiring, vent windows. These are some of the things that take some time to figure out. The splicing of the frame and body are the easiest. Currently working on the interior wiring on the 12 EX

Yep. Lots of wiring to do. Good thing I have access to wiring diagrams. I might also mention that the wife made the executive decision on the color today. She wants white. I am NOT a fan of "work truck white" (oxford, like the truck is), so we compromised, and it will be some variation of pearl white, with Ptm stuff, and black headlights, smoked tail lights, etc. Now back to work. T-case and trans are out, and engine should be out tomorrow night. Next step is to get the frame on it's way.

Does the firewall have to be switched to make it work or will the engine and trans fit in the original doghouse?

Engine and trans will fit. It's much more of an electronic hassle than it's worth for me and my situation though. See here>>>http://powerstrokearmy.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=28564
I like updating the interior and front end anyway.

Thanks to a little tip/input from Jared @ RCD, I have been influenced to go with Audi/VW Champagne Pearl paint code L0B9. Here's a pic of the paint:

the new platinum white is a beautiful color, but a lot of amazing trucks are done/being done now with that already on it, so even though it's a slight change, it's enough to call it a deal. Now I'm a bit more excited to get something done. Sad, but true, one of the greatest decisions to make when I do a project is the color. It's kind of a relief to have at least the decision out of the way.

MHO on pearl white is that it always has that yellow tinge to it which makes it look dirty even when it's super clean. Just my opinion though. I want to see this project done.

That sure is a beautiful color JD, but I don't mind the yellowish tint at all, and any hint of silver would really bug me because of the tan interior. They just clash really bad IMO. A few years ago a friend of mine rebuilt a '00 super duty with the tan interior, and went with the regular silver. Ever since I saw that done, I just can't get over how much I hate silver hues against tan. If I had a gray or black interior, it would be a done deal, but I'm not about to buy a full interior, so I'll have to leave that color for somebody else, or a future project.

Another baby step in the right direction. Just before I bought the truck, the previous owner had new up pipes installed. Too bad it wasn't until everything got a thick coating of soot. There is a lot of cleanup in my future I think.

Hey Wayne. The mirrors on the donor looked like they survived the crash. Are they goin on your conversion, or do you wanna sell them. I need a set for Red.

They are tentatively spoken for, but if it doesn't work out, I'm sure we can work something out. I already have '08 mirrors on the excursion, so the ones on the truck are sort of extra. Glad to see you on the forum here Bill. I think you'll find a lot of useful info here.

I can't tell from the pics, but did you just join the frame and weld it end to end with no overlap? If so you might think about reinforcing that area.

Unfortunately it'll be after valentine's before I make much headway. I'm headed home for a week on Friday morning, and still have about 20 hrs worth of work to finish before I leave. I will be ordering the grille next week, but that's about it. Going with this style pictured below though

I hope to have the excursion frame to the shop when I get back as well. that's a big hang-up for now. Matt: as far as the frame graft goes, I'm hoping to splice it at the factory joint behind the frame cross member, just like the factory does except for grade 8 bolts instead of rivets. If that doesn't work, I will do a large backing plate with plug welds and bolts. It will probably be stronger than factory whatever I do. The pics you've seen of frame work are of other people on different vehicles trying to illustrate their approach.

This showed up today, but there's not much else to report for updates. My red truck is torn apart now, getting the stock drive train put in. Once it's done I will be back at the conversion. It sure is a challenge trying to work in 2 fairly big projects after hours. I hope this doesn't drag out more than originally anticipated.

Thanks. I think/hope it will. Here shortly I will need to get the bumpers powder coated white, so when I paint them pearl and it chips, it will only expose the white instead of bare metal underneath.

My '08 rear bumper needs some work, and the original has backup sensors which I'm not a fan of. Do you guys think I should fix up the '08 bumper, stock style excursion bumper, or something aftermarket? Keep in mind it needs to look good with a stock ptm front bumper.

i think the 08 rear bumper would fit the theme well, also hardly anyone ever does it.

Thanks for the input fellas. Looks like I will be buying a new top pad, and one side plate to get my stock bumper up to par.

I think I've seen an X with the taillights turned upside down so the white is on top like the new ones and it looks updated. I can't be 100% certain on that though.

They're the same lights as in the van. Sure, it could be done, but I don't have the ambition. We could put new van lights in, or aftermarket ones. New factory van lights look pretty much identical to what I have now. Probably just gonna smoke them a bit, but keep the reverse sections clear.

We'll call this a "lack of progress" update. I finally got my red truck 100% ready to sell, so that's not requiring any of my spare time. My work pickup ('96 GMC 1/2 ton) runs like it should now I rebuilt the trans, and fixed a whole list of neglect induced problems. Now I just need a dang excursion frame. I'm having issues getting a hold of the one I had planned on using, and it may not even be a possibility at this point. If this messing around waiting for other people continues I might just buy a wrecked excursion, and build off of it. At least that way I won't be taking the wife's ride while I'm working on it. That being the case, the project is on a bit of a hold until I figure out the frame deal. I will post more when I finally cross that bridge.

Wayne

What yr and how much are you looking to spend?

I know where there is a clean v10 2001 with a engine knock for sale. He is asking 2500 but I bet you could get it for less. Its in MN so shipping or towing it home wouldnt be that bad.

Heck the guy was asking 3 for mine and I got it for 1500.

That might be in the realm depending on body condition. I'm not a big fan of rust, so much of that would definitely be a deal breaker.

In other news, I got the truck back in the shop to start prepping what I can. Tonight I will have the bed off, but that's about it. before I started, I had a discussion with the bolts in which I informed them that one way or another, they were coming out. They chose another way by the time I made it to the 4th one (heating up the nuts from underneath to soften the factory loctite) my super fancy high impact snap on T-50 rounded the tips off, and I was forced to weld nuts on the tops of the last 5. I forgot what a pain these bolts can be until tonight.

We usually cross cut the heads and chisel them off. Welding a nut on works good until the nut on the bottom breaks out of the clip

You gotta love good ol road salt...

A couple of mine did that too. I had to weld them back on. Maybe next time I will take the cut and chisel approach. I probably would have if the ones above the fuel tank were beasts. Bed is off, but I had to get a little creative as I'm flying solo tonight, and a fork lift would be too awkward. Got 'er off though.

Well, I just bought a new project donor. Here it is:

This one's an Eddie Bauer 6.0, so I plan to use the drivetrain from it, throw in some head studs exhaust, tuner, gauges, and an EGR ******, then install it in my tan one. Then the body and frame from this one can be used in the 6.4 conversion. Now my wife won't have to be without wheels, and the resale value on the V-10 will go up. Once both are done I can sell the 6.0 to recover project costs in the 6.4. I'm about to go on days off here at the end of the week, so nothing will happen until I get back at the beginning of May, but I'm pretty pumped to now have 95% of the parts I need to do the 6.4 project.

I think you should drive that white truck exactly how it sits.

Ya know JD, if the drive train was in it, I'd definitely take it for a spin around the block as-is I'm pretty stoked on the deal I got, and now things are primarily limited by my available time. I will pick up the wrecked '03 either tomorrow or Wednesday. I haven't even seen it in person, so I m really hoping for no surprises. ...unless it's an envelope full of $100 bills that actually happened once on an auction truck I bought. Man, that was a nice surprise.

Well, I got the new donor to the shop, and I. Many ways it's better than I expected. After I peeled back all the broken junk, I put power to it, and it fired right up. It looks like I need most everything from the water pump forward, but luckily the pcm and abs module were untouched. Here's the extent of the damage with most of the broken stuff peeled back:

You're making progress Wayne, looks good! If you don't have all the stuff from the water pump forward, let me know and Ill hook you up.

Thanks Seth. Expect a call in the next few days. if it is missing from this pic, or a complete v-10, I probably need it. I will put a list together.

Oh, I know. Call me lazy, right? that one looks like it turned out nice. Unfortunately my livelihood takes precedence over my excursion projects if only my family didn't need food on the table, and parts were free, things could go much more quickly.

Well, both projects picked up the pace for the next month. I took a new job in another state that starts in 6 weeks, and in order to move, I need the 6.4 project as 1 vehicle, and the v-10 to 6.0 conversion complete to do that. Thanks to Seth, for a bunch of factory stuff, and my account at premier, things are well on their way.

Exhaust for the 6.0 just showed up. Apparently I bought the last of it's kind as a discontinued kit from MBRP. 3.5" down pipe to 4" aluminized "off-road" system with a muffler. Everybody seems to still make the kit which retains the cat, but I want to do one of those "high flow" cat modifications that slip over the pipe, and weld in place. I've also decided when the time comes I'll try for the 5" hypermax kit for the 6.4 excursion. It seems like the excursions are not nearly s well supported as the trucks unfortunately.

The 6.8L has officially been retired from excursion duty. Now I gotta decide what to do with a complete drivetrain set and no chassis to put it in. More than likely if I haven't sold it for super cheap to avoid having to store it, it will end up in an older pickup project some day. Until then, I need to focus on finishing the projects I'm already in the middle of.

A big thanks to co04cobra (Seth) for most of the stock parts I needed to finish the 6.0 conversion. They were killer prices, even after the shipping! I got it running tonight, and woke up some neighbors on a WOT test drive. I have a couple little loose ends to tie up on it, and it's back to the '08 conversion this coming weekend. It sure is weird/fun hearing the open '03 6.0 exhaust scream from the same rig I've been putting around in for the past 2 years behind the torqueless v-10.

Since I'm changing jobs mid-project, and I don't have time to sell most of the good left over parts, I turned a bunch of those parts into a temporary trailer to haul a bunch of the other parts.

Yeah, I know it's pretty redneck, but emphasis on the temporary situation. Once I get everything to Twin Falls Idaho (hopefully done moving after this for a very long time), I'll stick it in storage until figure out all the details. The '08 frame section is obviously cut, and I've got the body clip ready to go on, so tomorrow will be the beginning of the frame graft.

On that note, I did a lot more close inspection of the two front frame sections. Almost everything would be perfect except for the excursion main frame rail sections being about 2" shorter than the '08's, just in front of the front cab mounts, so I won't be doing the graft as I hoped. I will just do it under the cab like everybody else does, and sleeve it. I was really hoping to not need to cut anything but rivets and factory welds, but that's life, I guess. I'm not worried about strength, but I was hoping to go for an extra clean factory look. More pics to come in the next few days as the two halves come together.

It's looking good Wayne!! Coming along very nicely for not having a ton of time to devote to it.

Did you seperate the rockers at a factory spot? Looks like it in the pics can't tell for sure.

Wiring the rear half should be fun to the 08 front harness. Keep us posted on that part.

Thanks. I just drilled out the spot welds to separate everything except for the inner rocker liner, which will be overlapped. The floor and rocker joints between the 6.4 and 6.0 are identical at least. The windshield posts are staggered 6+" from the insides to the outsides, but just at ideal locations. There are no joints to separate on the A pillars.

Monster wheels are gone off the trailer now it's sporting the axle and tires from the blue ex. I have been doing some cutting, welding, and axle swapping though.

Also, I ordered some '08 style badges from billet badges, black with machined text and vent slots. I'm having second thoughts on the text though. Under the "EXCURSION" logo most trucks say lariat, xlt, xl, or whatever, then "SUPER DUTY". I ordered them with the "LIMITED" text, but I'm far from settled on how I will finish the interior as I'm considering an interior conversion to black among other things. They can't distort the "EXCURSION" text to fill the entire top section, and eliminate the text just below as it's copyright infringement, so I'm at a loss since I don't want to "personalize" the logo too much. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

unfortunately I'm flying solo without a lift either. I'm too cheap to pay for help I had to get creative to bring the two halves together where everything lines up, but all the gaps and body lines are perfect, so I'm good with that.

It's looking sweet!! That would be a major PITA solo. You get any pics on the frame graft? Have you started on any of the wiring?

If I can get one of these 6.4s to hold up the ol lady needs one in the future. Even though she doesn't know that yet.

Looking forward to seeing it painted.

Glad to see things moving forward. Not that I ever had any doubt, but that's gonna be one sweet ride! Just make sure all the go fast parts from the pickup end up in the Ex!

Hahaha. Some of the go fast parts will make their way on, but some will definitely be replaced. I'll be doing different turbos, transmission, and fuel injection. Not that anything was wrong with what I had, but I just want to try some different stuff. Seth, I'd get you a pic of the frame graft if I had any, but I won't be near it until next week as I'm in the process of moving. I'll try to get a pic then. I have definitely thought about calling it the unlimited edition, but haven't settled on it just yet. Anybody else have an opinion on the badge text?

CR (common rail) edition but make it like the KR truck badge with excursion instead of f-xxx.

We will come up with some cool ones for red Bill, maybe more specific to the plans in the works. It's already a really sweet ex you have. The next level will definitely put it over the top though. I keep going back and forth on unlimited vs. Limited. It could go either way, and I'm about out of time. The CR deal is cool too, but I'll have to give it more thought as to how it would look.

Thanks guys. I finally got a snap shot of my unfinished frame graft. It still needs the inside plates and some clean up, but without a way to lift the body at the moment, and finishing my move from North Dakota tomorrow it will have to wait until I get set up in Idaho to be finished. If all goes well, I will blast and paint the whole frame anyway, but here's a pic to at least show the graft location.

Well, updates on this thread won't be for a while I suspect. I'm loaded up, and headed out in the morning. Once I paint it, I'll probably throw up a few more pics. Thankfully the Ford dealership I'm going to work at has a full blown body shop. I bet I can sneak it in the booth one weekend once all the prep work is complete. Also, I figure I better show off my newest tool/toy as I've had my eye on it for a very long time. It's a 22' full hydraulic tilt deck, deck-over with a 12k# winch; pretty much a roll back wrecker on a bumper hitch, which I chose over a goose neck for when my truck breaks down and I need the wife to come rescue me. It was kinda spendy, but I have plans to use it to make money in the near future, so it's sort of justified. That, and I still have nightmares of putting stock front tires on to clear fenders, then using dual ratchet straps for over an hour dragging a truck up a deck just to load it.

Thanks guys. North Dakota was a good experience, but having a wife and kids at home, it's good to have that chapter over.

build looks sweet!

Yeah, the resume has gotten ridiculous looking. I really love the dealership I'm working at. There are a bunch of really talented people here, and this is the kind of place that regularly offers head stud upgrades among other things, so it feel like home. I sure am tired of moving as well. I did get my wheels picked out at least though. I was thinking I'd run the death metal bmf novakanes from my '03, but I want to mix it up a bit.

I haven't seen these on anything around here yet, and like the way they look, so I ordered a set. They're pretty new though, and to get the deal I got I will need to wait until the end of the month until they ship. No biggie since it doesn't run anyway.

I like those wheels first time I have even seen them. Love these excursion builds and can't wait to see this one come to life!

I've accomplished next to nothing on the excursion since I moved to Idaho. I've been really busy with the Ford training program through the dealership, which is nice. About the only thing I've done up to this point is move all the parts that aren't attached yet to a storage unit, and order the frame sleeves. They're 3/16" thick, just like factory, and fit perfectly inside. Pics to come when I finish the graft, and get the cab pulled to install the drivetrain. I now need to get it running before I paint it due to mobility issues. Oh, well. No big deal. It's just not happening in the order I intended. Aside from that, my emblems did show up, but they were too black in person, so I exposed the metal on the vent bars. There's kind of a before and after below, along with the new sleeves.

Once this is done... What do you think about shoe horning a 6.4 into an 08 or newer cargo van? You up to another challenge? If that won't fit, maybe a really worked 6.0.

6.0, no problem. 6.4, well, anything's possible That would definitely be a cab up job though that would also require a really fat wallet and lots of time too. There's a good reason Ford never offered that option unfortunately. I keep taking on new big jobs which keep delaying this rig. at least they're fun jobs. You may have heard of one or two, and something about a really big super charger

The super's not for me unfortunately. I'm working on a 6.0 getting some big lungs, well, big for a daily driver anyway.

Small update on the excursion project:

Never mind the mess on the bench behind mine. That belongs to another guy at work. I found enough spare time at work to rebuild a core 5R with some mild upgrades. It's got heavy duty clutch packs, billet input, and the 13" suncoast converter left over from Buford. That aught to last me for a little while at least since I initially plan on getting it running on stock fuel injectors. I can always hope for future fueling upgrades, but I've got a completion list about a mile long. Maybe in the next few weeks I can get this thing along with some other stuff installed.

Thank you. Also, I managed to squeeze the EX in the shop so I can do a few cab-up things with the big welder; well, big compared to my millermatic 135 anyway...

Hopefully I'll have a few more procress pics within the next several days that are worthy of posting. I guess we'll see.

Got a few things done over the last few days.

Finished the frame graft.

Swapped out the excursion rear springs for the '08 F-250 springs, and moved the spring mounts forward on the frame.

Got the trans and t-case in as well as the up pipes, stock injectors, turbos, etc. It looks like I'll be able to do brakes, fuel system, and frame wiring before the cab has to come back down as well here in the next week or so.

what was the reasoning behind putting the F250 rears springs in? i am considering doing that to one of ours also...is it a must to move the hangers?

on another note-you say stock turbos? i thought this was getting the built motor and turbo setup from the red truck or did i miss something.,..

The big stock appearing turbos was the original plan, and it's still in the future. Right now I'm in the process of closing on buying a house, so I've been trying to be really budget minded, and keep this project debit free. So far, so good, but that's part of the reason it's going so slow. Oh, well, it's not like I need the vehicle. As far as the rear springs go, they're 8" longer, so smoother ride. It also helps for an ideal location on the e-brake cable mount since the '08 rear axle cables go through the spring hanger mount. It'super easy though on moving the hanger since 2 of the front mount bolt holes in the frame become 2 of the rear mounts on the bracket.

I guess I should mention that I got it running a few days back. Lots of little trinkets done that most people don't think about like relocating the RR shock mount on the axle, Most of it is little stuff that doesn't look like much, but at least all the lights, e-brake, and drivetrain work. All the fluids are in too.... unless you count to the rear heat and a/c lines. the rear lines are run to the engine compartment, but I have yet to plumb them into the 6.4 stuff. Oh, well.

Thanks for the offer. All I've done in the last long while is install the 5" hypermax exhaust and a level kit up front. I also got a mini maxx for it, but that's about it. I keep taking on side jobs, which delays this thing, but I've promised myself I'd get it painted before fall. Shoot, I even have all the paint just sitting there, waiting for me to get to it. I went with Dupont Oryx White. It's the pearl white they put on vw/porche/audi. Tires and wheels are finalized too, but I'm running them on my truck now

Not a very good pic, but these are the tires and wheels for the project. They're 20x10 bmf novakanes I've had for a few years, and tires are 35" Dick Cepek Extreme Country. I just gotta finish the lift on the truck so the big tires can go on, and I can save these tires for the ex.

Here's the current state of the ex, minus the tires. It's got some stock wheels with 35's as rollers for now. I just had to throw on the 40's I got for my truck as perspective since I'm waiting for my lift to get finished up at OUO.

It's a monet for sure. It's had a hard life until I bought it last year. I got it cheap enough though that it was worth it. Little dents all over, and the floor of the bed... well, let's just say if I ever get to cleaning it up cosmetically, I'll be replacing the bed. At least it runs well. The good part about the cosmetic blemishes is I won't feel bad about cutting fenders and bed sides to allow full travel of the new suspension at full steering lock... once I get it all installed, and that will likely be after the ex is painted, and glass back in it.

We've got a 4th daughter due in early november, and my wife has threatened me about hauling 4 kids in a truck with a 10" lift and 40's , so progress on this will soon become a reality, or next time you see me, it'll be on the side of a milk carton

Between the last couple weeks I've been able to find enough time to paint all the jambs including inside the fuel door, fenders, doors, hood, and rear section. I put an extra coat of pearl on, so it's more noticable that it's not just a generic white; kind of like gm's white diamond color. I'll do the same for the rest of the paint process. The pics don't do a very good job of showing how it looks in person, but oh, well. Over all I do like the color, and my wife loves it, so I guess it works out. I don't know how far I'll make it between tomorrow night, and a really long day Saturday, but I'm hoping to have it sprayed. This paint is tricky enough for me that I'm a little nervous about the pearl flowing properly, so I decided to paint every jamb before the rest of the body, then soft back-mask all the jambs when I spray. That way, I can have every panel final-hung, and in place. I've got to paint the entire exterior of the body at once so I know the pearl will match from panel to panel. Below are a few progress pics. I know they look a lot different in shade from pic to pic, but they're all the same shade in person. It's just how the light and camera react to it.

That looks really good. I'm sure it is better in person. I haven't the talent nor patience to paint much anything. Slathering paint on the walls of the abode is about as intricate as I get, and I'm not real happy when I have to do that.

Looking good. I would love to see it in person someday.

Sure thing. It's not much to look at yet, but it's coming along. Paint prep took way longer than expected, and I'm about 98%ready to mask. Tuesday after work is the newly rescheduled paint day. Give it a month or so, and it still will be far from done but it might have tags if I don't get too distracted

I got the main body painted, and glass back in it. I've temporarily put the textured black handles in it, but plan on doing ptm before it's done. I also wanted to see if I like the black, which I kind of do, but not enough to keep them. There's still a very long way to go, and I've got to get caught up on some other projects, but it was good to get the interior weather tight at least. Katzkins showed up as well. I mostly finished the back seats, but a major obstacle I see will be getting the seat belts re-belted. I'm still working on that one, so if anybody knows a company doing that, I'm all ears.

thanks for the comps guys, and thanks "gambling209". http://www.ssnake-oyl.com/mm5/merchant.mvc is what I found, and hope to hear back from them on a quote. I assume this is who you were thinking?

https://www.safetyrestore.com/

They deal with SRS belts, but should be able to do it all.

Why are you re belting the seat belts?

I guess that wasn't very clear. It's because all my belts are tan, and I'm going all black on the interior. I know I can buy new ones for the front, but not the excursion seats.
