I had already posted about a whining noise, thought it was my power steering pump, but it wasn't, I've replaced pump, and both idler pulley's. still no change. the sound originally started at random, and actually right after I installed a leveling kit. I took some video, and regardless of being in drive, or park, or neutral, or speed it still makes the whine, it gets louder with RPM's only. steering back and forth does not effect the the whining noise. HELP, Dealer wanted 230$ to diangose, which I think is crappy, so I'm taking another jab at this, hints why I'm including video's this time.

one video is in park, the other is while driving, and hitting a few speed bumps.

Here is a trick that will help you find the issue I hope. Take a long screw driver and place it on one of the drive accessories on front of motor and put your ear on the end where your hand would go. If the noise is coming from one of these, you will be able to hear it through the screw driver. Check all the accessories and report back. Good luck.

well, as much as I would like to do that, how am I supposed to? The fan is in the way while is running covering everything. the only thing that I MIGHT be able to safely do this to is the alternator. It's on the very bottom kinda next to the front passenger side tire.

ya I'm not saying that it can't be done, I was just saying.. also I made this post a few minutes ago on a different forum:

I just replaced the pump a few weeks ago and no change, and before that I had flushed the fluid... Nothing changed... Replaced the two idler pulleys and no change... I'm not 100% sure that it's belt driven but that's what it sure seems like to me, haven't tried it with out the belt on yet but I'm thinking about it, just to see if the noise goes away or not. A local shop took a quick look and said to him it sounded like it was coming from the tranny like it was the tranny pump.... Not sure though, tranny seems fine, shifts and rides fines and temps are good... However I did just check the fluid and its cold right now, I pulled the dip stick out and it's slightly over the high hot mark... WTF? So i checked a few more times and same thing.. It's high hot when it's actually cold ... An idea? Not sure why it's high but could high fluid cause a whine noise from the pump? I don't know a whole lot about trannies

disregard the fluid level in the tranny, my DA was checking the fluid while it wasn't running, so naturally it's going to show a high reading. I took the belt off last weekend, and it seemed that the whine was still there. I'm off tomorrow so I'm going to take the belt off again just to be sure. if the whine is still there while the belt is removed whats the next step to check? FR pressure at idle is around 5500, and if I rev up the pressure seems to go up with no problem. FR temp is 75 but the truck wasn't at normal operating temp. I'm going to monitor those 2 reading again tomorrow while I'm messing with the belt, and get it up to operating temps and see what kind of reading I get. any other idea's or comments are welcome. thanks.
