Default RCSB thread.

Since more and more seem to be popping up... I figured I'd make a place to show them off, and shoot the breeze about them.

I'll start:
Mine is a 50/50 truck (Looks good 50' away at 50mph), I use it for autocrossing.

It is an 03 6.0 6 speed, and the conversion was done by me.

I bought this one off a member of the site. It's a 2003 6.0. It has 205/100 and a 366. It's a fun little truck. It needs a transmission and a fuel system now.

Well, it looks like mine is going to go under the knife again this winter.... If I can find a semi-floating 10.25..... I see them all the time except when I need one.

My XL in the middle of collecting all parts for king ranch swap interior. I have most of it just missing the seats. Getting the grill color matched and painted king ranch bumper up front. I just bough the truck 3 months ago

I love the look of rcsb trucks but 90% of them I have seen are white! I just priced my ecsb to sell, so I can buy a 2wd rclb manual. I have my eye on a farm truck just up the road from me.

Yes it is. I am waiting on more to go over the whole thing once or twice. I am just using the rattle cans because the truck is not really worth anything more than that being that it is for racing, not for show.

Orange is for the most part done, another can or two will finish up the bottom and the tailgate spots that are still splotchy. Waiting a few hours then I will start shooting the black.

Thanks! For the most part, I am happy with how it turned out. I have some touching up to do yet, but right now it at least passes the 50/50 test (It looks good 50' away at 50mph)

That Blaze Orange is bright but fades kinda quick. Hopefully you can park it in the shade as much as possible.

Love rcsb trucks. Here is my junk. 08 dream beams on the front, back half in the rear. Still gotta finish up the headlights. Really wanna build a street version of it next.

Thanks man. All the trucks in here look pretty sweet. A slammed 2wd rcsb street truck is definitely on my list of things to build.

I found one for sale, 2000 7.3 with 165k, zf5. Owner doesn't know who cut the frame or how it was done. runs a bullydog programmer, has shifting problems and wobbles at speed on occasion. He wants 9k for it. Worth it in you guys opinion? I feel like I could find a long bed and do it for cheaper but idk...

No info on the cut and a wobble....sounds like a lot of potential for disaster.

Has anybody gone static more than than the standard 3-5 drop? I slam the frame with the axle when I have a load on, so I am planning to c-notch and add helper bags in the rear. I am thinking about going down another 2" all the way around. Thoughts?

Because then I would have to go all out and build a-arm fronts. Which is not in the budget right now.

Been thinking about a stack too honestly......but if I did it, I'd keep it low, maybe some where between the level of the bedsides and half way up back of the cab window

I have gone back and forth on doing a stack, but I really like how my exhaust turned out. It is hidden very well, and gets the soot away from the truck.

I'll have to look again. I couldn't find the black tight mesh on there just now.
How's the quality and fitment?

Fitment is great, ran one on my 6.4 and my 06 6.0......the "carbon fiber" held up way better than the straight black on the 6.4, but I had it professionally painted by then

Any complaints on the hood on your shorty Julian? Idk if I want to run a traditional cowl or the on you have. I'm kinda iffy that yours will look too aggressive

I have a simple question I can't find the answer for: on a 2wd rcsb conversion, can a super duty fuel tank be used, or does everybody have to find something custom? I read a lengthy discussion but I think it was concerning only 4x4 trucks and fuel tank issues. My truck is a 2005 XL rclb, hoping to use the stock tank but otherwise I might as well be looking.

Will need a shortbed tank.

^^ Yep, what he said. You can use the 28 gallon tank from a short bed truck. Only time you have to go "custom" is if your RCSB will be 4WD like mine.

It hangs down pretty low though. Definitely visible from all angles. Not sure if that matters to you, but just FYI

It looks bad imo hanging down in the back. Unless you can find some way to hide it, but a roll pan or bumper will not.

I agree, which is why I didn't go that route. I had a picture of someone who had test fit one, and it didn't look good...

You may be able to do C&C tank, not sure if it shows like the EX's tank does or not. I think you have to trim some of the frame to make it fit IIRC

C&C tank may be a little smaller in height so it will hang down less, but it will still be visible. There is not that much difference between the Excursion tank and the C&C tank, if any at all.

In my opinion, if you are going through all the work of building a SCSB, why not spend the extra coin for a custom fuel cell that mounts between the frame rails where the spare tire hangs. You can get one that is custom fit to the space and will not be visible from behind, and can put the fill tube somewhere in the bed. Similar to what Jordan did with his ruby red truck.

Excellent points.......if that day does come, probably just throw a fuel cell back there

Mine is intended to be low cost and used to drive anytime although I do want it lowered. Salvage yards here get 150 for the 28 gallon tank, I will likely end up buying that so I can fuel it up normally still.

Anyone here lowered theirs 3/5 with djm suspension parts? Only with 2wd I assume

I bought some factory 20s today and found out a 275 65 20 is not going to fit even if the truck is not lowered. I saw someone using a 285 50 20.

Can anyone verify if my new fuel tank is correct? I cannot get my photobucket to upload today but I brought home a new tank and it measures 60", the large tank currently in the 05 measures 60" also. The filler neck is at the rear of the new tank but I'm having trouble believing this tank will work. The description was "2006 super duty 29 gallon, 6.75' bed." My new tank looks just like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/05-06-07-FOR...-/171077687186
Thanks for any help

Just a 20 gallon fuel cell from summit. It may sit slightly below the roll pan, but it won't bother me. Wanted to try to get the weight as far back and low as possible.

If you're keeping your truck 2WD, then yeah - that'll work.

Thank you, that re-assures me until it comes time to install it. I had my doubts about it fitting. My djm 3/5 drop came ups today, not bad considering I ordered it Monday at almost 5 o'clock. Dream beams box weighs 76 lbs - wow, guess they need to be a touch heavy though.

I'm not going to lie, I'd probably rock that thing as-is. But I also have one of the ugliest rcsb trucks out there, and I am messed up in the head.

My 2wd 05 just got shortened and lowered it with djm 3/5 kit. Can anyone with this kit tell me what pinion shims you used?? I have the 4* shims installed but it looks like I actually might need 8*. The trans shaft is at 5* downward and the pinion is at 9* upward- way too much.

I plan to drop of the ds to have 17" removed from it tomorrow.

I started a thread about the probability of 2 rcsb trucks meeting on the highway.... pretty interesting.

That's my kinda setup! Pretty sure I've made the decision to keep my shorty for the long haul, I'll end up buying a new 6.7 later to tow it around with - whenever we move into a bigger house that has room for more toys.

Are you dead set on white? Reason I ask, it would be a shame for someone to take a glance at it and think it's a fleet truck of some kind.

I think it's just the angle of the photo. If you cut the frame behind the first bed hole mount, it's impossible to not get the bed lined up straight. Unless the actual bed is bent.

Lol that is cool that you found one, that may be the only one in that color also. I kinda knew the odds were against meeting another one on the road. Never seen one in person except mine.

I just realized I have 2 bumpers and no bottom/chin plastic piece, any recommendation on which one to look for? Guessing sticking with 05-07 would be the cleanest look. I beleive I f'd up my headlights tonight also, I might be interested in buying some if anyone has extra or wants to upgrade to a diff style. Stock chrome 05-07 is probably what I want.

I did not plan to have the truck completely painted, I jumped on a white 09 short bed when I had the chance then bought an 05 fleet truck. It has some damage on both doors, the hood was somehow scratched to hell, so I was already planning on getting the whole front painted. Then I found that one bedside had been worked on and the entire bedside clearcoated - including over the top of the 4x4 off road decal...so time to paint the bed too... I had considered changing the color but I'm fine with white and it's a cheaper and simpler job. I was thinking of making it lava red which was used on 2010 harley trucks and mustangs in 2012.

If you are going to go through the trouble of painting it, choose something other than white IMO.

Anyone rocking a custom sound system in their RCSB? I've got the headunit and door speakers - just need a sub or two, an amp, and possibly some rear speakers. Any suggestions?

I have a single 10" behind the seat and a pioneer head unit...... Seems to work out just fine for me.

Where did you mount the amp? Will it fit under the seat? I don't want to lose too much space behind the bench.

Amp is under the seat... Still plenty of room behind the bench for tow straps, a full set of carhartts an various other tools.

What brand? Is it a slim fit? Think I'm going to build a custom box to fit two 10s if I can fit them.

I've got 2 10" JL audio subs behind the passenger seat, was kind of a issue with the stock seats for tall people, but with the new Mastercrafts.....its all gravy now

Amp is mounted under the center seat/flip console, fits just find, don't have it cranked up too high as the two 10s are WAAAAY over kill with ported box, I have everything set very reserve, so heat isn't an issue

I have a dated Kenwood head unit......need a new one, but just haven't had the time to sit and research whats the best

I mean it wasn't awful......I'm 6ft and my buddy is 6'4....we took a trip cross county in it. His knees came close to touching the dash, I had more room obviously but after 4 or 5 hours it was getting a lil old lol, but thats regular life more than it being the sub box I think
