Just had u-joints and carrier bearing replaced last spring. -_-

I have only got as far as the two sorta local places and they said "you'll get vibrations with a two piece". How do duramaxes have them then? Im sick of that hokey ass setup. Im tempted to take the shaftvout of a ccsb dmax and try it.

I've had u-joint/carrier bearing issues most of the time I've had the truck. I had all the u-joints replaced by a mechanic (including the carrier bearing) last spring...and whatever aftermarket part the mechanic put on for the carrier bearing completely grenaded. SOOOOOOO sick of this 2-piece setup.

That last option is good if you wanna fling a grand at it. 5" Al

As much as I'd love aluminum....not spending that much on a drive shaft. $5-600 is about my max I'm willing to go, and I think 4" is fine. I have a PMR motor so I'll never be too high in the HP/Torque department....at least not long enough to snap a shaft, lol

Do you know how long the driveshaft is from center of u joint end to end? I think the general rule of thumb is they won't make a 1 piece longer than 72 inches. I had a 1 piece made for my eclb. Local shop made it up no problem. I just had to cut out the carrier bearing bracket for clearance. Cost a little under 500 if I remember correctly.

I plan on removing the shaft Monday (my next day off) and moving it into the garage so I can get all the measurements needed. I've been in contact with both the shops I linked earlier so next is measurements so I can get prices.

So after doing more research, I think I will be going with the CCI 4" steel shafts, they use either 1410 or 1480 u-joints, which as far as I can tell offer both more u-joint flex as well as being beefier. Price is a bit more, ~$100 more. Still not 100% decided tho, I'll be getting my measurements for them and calling both on Monday.

Can you not find one from a super cab short bed and have a driveline shop lengthen it and re-balance it? Should be cheaper than building a whole new one and cuts out their idea of a 2 piece.

My local guy in nashville built mine no problem. Think it was around 500 total but that was all labor, joints etc. told him it was going behind a 1k hp diesel and he told me if it breaks then he will fix it for free. It's balanced and I have zero issues. He does ship also. It's daves driveshaft in Nashville tn. Let me know and I can get his number.

I don't want to mess with cutting/pasting new/old parts together. New shaft and be done with it. I'm done with "cheaper," keeping the stock one is cheaper. Nothing but headaches, and with my first on-road failure....I'm done.
