Please bear with me, I have been out of the game for a while.

I just put a Hydra chip and gauges in my buddies 01 dually.
Also did the 6637 and muffler ******.

While putting the intake on I noticed his intake wheel is in Rough shape. Not sure how but it is.

Anyway, there is some shaft play as well.

NOW.....
It will never get any more mods than the chip, intake and muffler ******.

Would a stock reman turbo be the best route, or would there be a mild upgrade that would be a better choice for a stock injector truck?

The truck is ALWAYS hooked to a gooseneck and grossing out at 20-25k

Diesel site sells a rebuilt stock turbo with a WW2 installed and balanced.

Or there's the 38r.

For a stock injectored truck that'll never be anything more, I'd prefer a stock turbo with a 1.0 housing and a 6/6 wheel. That was a great setup on mine!

Yeah, i see they are pretty much the same cost as the 38r

38R with the stock wheel that it comes with.

Is there that much improvement over the stocker to justify the $500 additional cost?

Not looking to tear into a turbo and void a warranty

I'd make sure the motor has good compression if the compressor wheel looks like that. Does it have blowby?

Has practically zero blow by and is a strong runner and good cold weather starter.
I have not done a compression test though. That have owned the truck for the past 100k and bought the truck with 70k on it

Depends where you take your measurement from....inducer or exducer.

GTP38R (ball bearing center section)
Compressor Inducer: 65.91mm (66mm)
Compressor Exducer: 88.14mm
Turbine wheel inducer diameter: 76.2 mm
Turbine wheel exducer diameter: 69.84 mm (70 mm)

What exhaust housing comes on a 38r? a 1.0?

Can you get one with a .84 for faster spool up, or is it completely pointless

Comes with the 1.0, no need for the .84

I have a 38r with a full fuel system and a gen3 hpop. Haven't towed heavy for a while, but this Thing feels like it would be a towing machine since I added the gen3.

IMO This is a solid setup if one wanted to stay on stock injectors.

Going t4 and hybrids in the coming weeks and my 38r will be for sale.

I have a 38r on my ex. Stock injectors, Intake, exhaust, and tunes, it has no problems at all.
Kc turbos version is interesting, as it is rebuild able, according to the propaganda. Only downside to the 38r.
Having said that, I've had zero issues in the two trucks that I have, with 100% nozzles and medium oil, one manual, one auto. And they've definitely towed, often at 25k+ gcvw.
If I were starting from scratch, a t4 would be a more optioned setup, but for simplicity, it's hard to beat the r.
I wouldn't waste my time putting a stocker back in.

Have you got the second supply line plumbed up yet for the Gen3 or do you some help with it?

I got the extra supply line on there and I greatly appreciate your help.

I feel like the gen3 was a much bigger bump in power then the 38r. Very satisfied with it and I'd recommend it even with stock injectors.

This pump improved the power enough that even my wife noticed. She said "what is that, how it sucks you back in the seat ?" I said ***in torrrrrrque !!

She's liable to bug out when I put on the 3/2's and 467.7

Just a lot of oil pressure that doesn't need to be there. Over doing the system.
