364.5 Arrived

Welp, decided to swap from the 38R to the 364.5SXE Borg Warner turbo using the Carson Stauffer Diesel T4 kit from DP tuner. Looking to pick up low rpm boost as well as anything else this turbo can do better..

Rec'd the turbo recently, here are some pics of it. I'll follow once the CSD kit arrives and I confirm I have all the parts required to complete the swap.

I believe I'll need to remove the down pipe by cutting or disassembling it to fit the new pipe and then go to the exhaust shop to make the connection, but will see unless someone on here has completed this sort of work with the CSD kit before.

Whatever you do. Run the new down pipe into place before you mount the turbo. Ask me how I know. Lol. Also, I did the same as said above. Used a piece of stainless flex to go between the dp and exhaust, above the cross member. But you will need a 3.5"-4" adapter. If you have 4" exhaust.

I didn't need to adapt anything with my Irate t4 kit. It mated perfectly with my Magnaflow exhaust.
I wish I could do a back to back comparison between this turbo and my BASB just for fun. Love to see if there are any noticeable differences.

Carson uses a 3.5" down pipe.

That would be interesting for sure, if have to imagine your current BASB would have lower EGT b/c of the bigger turbine housing/less back pressure. I just wanna know how he made it spool so fast with a larger housing.

Not sure, it hasn't shipped yet. I rec'd a 3 1/2 to 4" adapter though. They must assume anyone installing this must have a 4" exhaust already.

I'm guessing the basb is a very very close match to the sxe364.5. For all we know it's the same turbo. Top secret Bell stuff is t always something "magical"

Just having relocated and starting a new job is taking up all my time. I am now working on my garage space though. My workbench needs configuring and all my tools are completely jumbled in their drawers from the move. The good news is the truck does fit in it's intended space easily so, once I get to that point and don't see a need for the truck for 1-2 weeks, I'll get started. Perhaps as soon as next weekend.

I don't think it is. It is sold with a 1.15 ar exhaust housing and I've never heard any negatives about this model of the Bell turbos. Spool up is good even on the ZF trucks.

Installed the turbo this weekend. Everything went in well with a couple exceptions. 1) The down pipe doesn't line up good enough with the 4" exhaust I have. I removed a 4' section of the exhaust so I could install the supplied down pipe. It will need to go to the exhaust shop which is not unexpected. 2) the down pipe clamp sent in the CSD kit via DP Tuner was way to large, they didn't check it apparently as it's probably 1-2" too large. The stock clamp was used instead but it doesn't fit correctly either so hopefully the exhaust shop will have one that fits. I'll Reach out to DP Tuner to see if a replacement can be sent. Other than these two things, it all went smooth. Got the supplied 4" mandrel bent/welded intake tube trimmed in nicely with my new style S&B intake. Took it for a drive around the block and seemed fine, just loud with only a down pipe so I can't tell much from that short loud drive.

I used a piece of SS flex pipe to go from the down pipe to the exhaust. Mine also came with a 3.5" down pipe, and I used an adapter to space it out to 4", then flex to the pipe. But I built my complete exhaust from parts because I wanted to keep it quiet. In the cab its near as quiet as stock, if not the same, and I got rid of the drone.

When you say the down pipe clamp, are you talking about DP to turbo clamp? Or exhaust clamp for the pipe itself?

It is the DP to turbo clamp. CSD is shipping out the right one today, DP assisted with this so it should arrive pretty soon and once the DP is clamped down properly, then I will tackle the exhaust connection.
