all I did with my truck is turn the dog house on the drivers side valve cover around and run a piece of oil rated hose down through the lines off the master cylinder and down to the frame rail. it ends about where the window is and it really doesn't vent that much.

No. He is asking about a breather to go in the oil fill orifice.

I'm guessing that he wants more room on the drivers side. I have basically an open breather and it stinks, I would want to route the breather down past the cab, preferably into the exhaust. To bad you couldn't weld the front of the passenger v/c to the rear of the v/c and put it on the pass. side. Someone needs to make a breather on the pass. side that is routeable into the exhaust.

Like a gasser.

Was thinking that the breather nipple on the driver side is around 1/2". With the stock PCV setup, the crankcase was under negative pressure.

Now we eliminated the plumbing into the turbo intake and vent to the atmosphere. I can't see how a 1/2" nipple could evacuate the crankcase pressures.

I was thinking about getting another extension tube and cutting the top threads off and clamping in a breather similar to this.

I have done just what you have pictured. But it didn't take long to start dripping oil. My vote is routed to exhaust.

Specific to the oil filler cap I think the Ford Racing offers a billet breathable oil filler cap that fits ours. I can not recall who on here has one but I saw it in a pic and someone asked what it was and that is what they commented about it. I have not checked it out yet. But all the drop in pressure you can have is a good thing there so.... But I would not make that my main CCV as I think you will run into the issues Tim mentioned.

In the case of main CCV application I am with Tim on this and have done it to a number of gassers just have not gotten around to it with the 7.3 You can actually go to big rig/industrial stores and pick up a piece of 4" exhaust pipe that has you would put right after your down pipe and it has the nipple already welded in at the correct 45° angle. Donalson actually sells them as parts to be used as part of the intake kits. On the OTR and industrial engines they use these for dust collection from the intake and thus its routed there but will do the same for the exhaust. You do want the back flow valve which is just a piece you plug into the hose line and it prevents any sudden exhaust surge that sometimes can happen at start up from sending pressure the other way. But the system will create a vacuum pull on the from the CCV much like it does when its routed the factory way into the intake but instead of all the oil crap going thru your turbo IC and engine it will be evacuated directly thru the exhaust.

Just make sure you have that back flow valve or whatever they call it for this application as otherwise you run the chance of pressurizing the CC with exhaust gas which will have oil blowing out the seals etc. Before all the strict emissions they use to be poplar and I think you can still find kits for them. Now they want everything including all the erosive byproducts from combustion being rerouted back thru the intake and engine all over again to scrub it and lower emissions but in doing so significantly increase engine wear.

Whats cool with the add on part is for those that do not weld its just a piece to add inline to the exhaust piping and it has the correct angle not to mention a certain depression shape upstream of it that from the looks is to increase the venturi effect and create more vacuum. It has to work fairly well and create a decent flow if its able to pull dust down from the intake when its actually working against the draw of the engine intake at the same time.

Now if you want to loose the doghouse I can think of a way you could do both. Add a Tee to the oil filler tube or make an attachment to the end ( I am sure you can work up a cap using some rubber boot/hose etc) Point being have the CCV vent thru the oil fill tube and have that attached to either atmosphere or ideally the exhaust for more positive venting.

I did some checking and I could be wrong as I have not checked it personally but looking at some parts cross ref it looks like the oil filler caps for Mustangs mid 80s to 2001 also fit the powerstroke. I have seen a few parts listed for the same application and same part number. So that is likley what the Ford racing breathable oil cap app is actually for but the size is the same so it works.

Something like this: http://www.americanmuscle.com/chrome-oil-fill-breather-86-95.html

So, hope I don't sound too dumb... Are we saying that venting cc pressure to atmosphere is not suffient enough? I guess What are you saying the positive effects of venting the other side with vacuum (ie exhaust) would be? Are you still planing to maintain the normal ccv mod plus this, or this in place of the normal ccv mod?

stockish is fine... most of the issue is at higher hp and rpm where it can't evacuate it fast enough.

remember that venting just straight off the doghouse to atmosphere is bad in the winter. that line can freeze from moisture build up and then you will blow out oil seal

Right now, all I have done is flipped the doghouse, and that is it. When I am at stop light I can smell it pretty bad. My previous truck I had routed into the exhaust and never smelled it.

I have mine vented to the driver side fender well, dumps behind the shock. Can get a bit smokey or smelly but doesn't bother me. I've grown up in the agriculture and construction industry, everything smokes and smells. LOL
