Would having the HPOP screen help? The one that Diesel site sells?
I dont know...
Changed my oil last weekend, and when I was dumping the oil into the 1 gallon containers I saw some metalic stuff at the bottom. Not a ton, and some of it was plastic or dried gasket material, I'm not sure.
Did not have any issues before changing the oil other then needing an oil change.
Fast foward to this week, driving 200-250 miles a day right now...
Tuesday, truck dies pulling into the Wal-Mart parking lot in Monument (about 200 miles total for the day). IPR plugged, cranking and getting 300psi max at 60% duty cycle... Clean, replace and it fires right up.
Wednesday, Truck dies on I-25, right at the top of Monument hill just after exit 168 (about 200 miles for the day)... Same thing, IPR plugged. R&R and it fires right up.
Thursday, Truck dies on Hwy 115, about 30 miles from Penrose (about 230 miles for the day)... Same thing, R&R and it fires right up. Only thing differant is I was pissed and didnt get my wrench on all the way, bent my IPR rod. No problem, I carry a spare so I clean it and throw it in.
Yesterday, Truck dies on C-470 about 5 miles from I-25 (about 170 miles for the day)... R&R and it fires right up.
Each and every time I can see NOTHING in the IPR to cause this, clean it with brake clean, taking it apart as far as you can.
So the entire week I am thinking I have a motor getting ready to go, must be bearing material plugging the IPR. Thing is, truck is running fine otherwise, no weird noises, no weird vibrations, NOTHING.
Today I dumped the oil that has about 1400 miles on it, the bucket is settling right now and I will see whats in the bottom. I pulled the HPO Res and there was NOTHING in it, NOTHING other then a little sludge you would expect for 40k on the motor. No metal, no brass, no nothing.
Fired back up and took for a quick test drive and no issues (of course I am sure I will be pulling the IPR sometime monday...)
I'm thinking its a HPOP that is plugging the IPR, Sheding something, which then goes to the IPR and plugs it... Then the oil filter is cleaning up what is being cast off.
I am loading a couple videos of the motor running, it sounds fine but hell if I know... I have a line on a OBS motor, but I would rather not swap a motor if its not the issue, with a new baby on the way dropping $1500 is not what I want to do...
