03 pistons and cam differences help

Piston bowl volume is virtually identical between the early and late style pistons, but the early pistons are a narrower, deeper bowl. I much prefer the later pistons. That being said, it won’t “hurt” anything to run the early style pistons. Injector cone angle, etc didn’t change through the years.

    6.0 intercooler w/plastic leaking?

CSF 6013 All aluminum, tube and fin, direct drop in replacement for the 6.0 intercooler. $229 on RockAuto. I’ve used probably a dozen of them.

    205/100 low icp wot

You didn’t say anything about hot start issues, so if it starts fine hot, you didn’t hurt the spoolvalves. 3.4-3.6 volts ICP is low, just not as low as 2.2-2.5 volts. I personally have never seen a stock hpop maintain good ICP with 205’s. Especially with 100% nozzles. Good tuning will...

    Ported heads.

Typically expect around 15% drive train loss, so around 400/860 to the wheels.

Go West, Young Man- Connor M's 6.4

Yes, he should be able to give you the deck height. I don’t see the point of coating, so I’ve always ordered Maxxforce 7’s and cut them to whatever I needed myself.

Go West, Young Man- Connor M's 6.4

3.87 is the standard bore. When you get the Mahle pistons it will have what the bore size for the pistons on the box. Mahle recommends going 0.001”-0.0015” looser for a performance application. I like to see 0.0045”-0.005” piston to wall clearance. As far as protrusion, no, you can’t use the...

    Project: WUT D P F

Very nice! I recently tackled a similar clean and insulate on my semi cab. It is a job that isn’t much fun, but sure worth the results when finished.

    High egt's

Things to do, and the order is do them in. #1 Pressure check the system for boost leaks. You need to pressure check from the inlet of the turbo all the way into the cylinders. A visual check is about worthless, as is trying to use ether to find a leak, or just thinking spoolup and boost are...

    Mild build questions

There is quite a few measurements you are going to need. I’d be more than game to ship it to you and let you copy it.

    Mild build questions

I have one. I can get measurements/pictures in the morning. I’d even risk shipping it to you.

Cab off repair and lift installed on my 6.4

First one I’ve seen that had run time and you could tell that the pistons were coated. I’m surprised a Maxxforce piston cracked.

Sounds like it was measured correctly. :clapping::clapping:

Cab off repair and lift installed on my 6.4

Did you use solid lifters and adjustable pushrods to do the checking?

Cab off repair and lift installed on my 6.4

0.035” clearance is considered the minimum. I’d cut the pistons you have and/or set valve recession deeper before spending for fly cut pistons. The coating is gonna disappear after a few minutes of run time anyway.

Cab off repair and lift installed on my 6.4

You shouldn’t have to exchange pistons. I would check your clearances with a set of solid lifters and adjustable pushrods to see what p to v clearance you actually have. Once you have those numbers post up what you find and we can go from there. If your piston protrusion is actually...

Cab off repair and lift installed on my 6.4

Piston protrusion sounds good. Valve recession is toward the shallow end for a Stage 2 cam. I’d be a bit leary to just take his word for it. You’re a days work and some gaskets away from knowing EXACTLY what you have. I’d be checking it. It’s cheaper to do it now and know, than have to fix it...

Hmm, what mod(s) to do to this new heap?

I’ve been up and down the Grapevine. It’s mean. Sounds like you’ve got it dialed in!

Cab off repair and lift installed on my 6.4

If the block has been decked, and nothing taken off the top of the pistons, you almost certainly will have piston to valve clearance issues. I have NEVER seen a Stage 2 cam fit correctly under those circumstances. At a MINIMUM, whoever built the engine should have measured piston protrusion...

WTB - 7.3 drivers side valve cover and turbo wastegate

Still haven’t looked. :fustrate: I worked from 4:30am-10:00pm on Saturday. I’ll look this evening if I get in in time.
