12mm nut and bolt is what it was. Grade 8.8 . 1/2" is just a bit too large.

How are the rest of your steering components? Ball joints, tierod ends, draglink ends, pitman arm nut, steering box, wheel hubs, etc? Alignment? Remove the dampers and drive with them off to see if it does it too. Sometimes you get used to something and don't notcie it until you change something.

You would need to see if the 2000-04 knuckle would work on the 08 axle. That's the only way to use the 16" rim.
