Trying to figure out an issue with a buddies 03. Has a hard cold start issue. Pretty sure #8 injector is weak, and that may be the cause of all this. Cycle the plugs, hit the key, and it'll usually fire right up, but only runs for a couple seconds and goes dead. Cycle again, turn it over, and it's puffing black smoke until it fires again...then chugs a couple times and goes dead. Third round it usually fires and stays running, although blows a big puff of black smoke once it does fire. Part of that has me thinking GP's, but I'm not sure. Only codes it ever throws are for #8 contribution. Ficm voltage was checked not long ago and is good, but as soon as I get some downtime I'll throw my ficm on it just to make sure.
Went to change the oil last week and when we pulled the filter (had been sitting all night), only half of it was covered in oil, so I'm thinking the little check/drain valve in the housing isn't seating properly. Is that a replaceable part?
