2003 6.0 boost/turbo problems

My dad has a 2003 f550 6.0l diesel auto, and about a month or so back it started acting up as he would be driving down the road and the turbo would boost up and then dump it keeps doing that every 3-5 seconds. The only way to get it to run ok for a little while is to undo the battery's for a while to rest the computer and it will run good for about 30 miles and then it's stars all over again. I'm not very familiar with the 6.0 I'm a 7.3 guy.

Check your map sensor to intake manifold hose, check the intake manifold so see if its clogged up as hell, turbo vanes may need cleaning, etc... it probably has some codes stored, get a scanner on it. Could be a boost leak too, but probably not judging by the symptoms
