Ok gents since my local tire shop was no help at all. I have a set of 2009 lariat 8 spoke 20x8s on my truck right now with the factory Michelins which are 275/65 r 20. They are sub par offroad and garbage on the road. I am looking at getting a set of nitto 420s I don't want something real high as clearance with the tires is not an issue and weight requirements not a huge issue I can throw my 18s back on if I need to tow anything. What size tire should I get? These metric conversions have me all messed up.

That's what I was looking at thanks man. I hate having to post a question like that on here but when the tire man says no you can't do it. Then tried to sell me bfg all terrains I walked out with my hands in my face.

liability wise you cant do it. you will have to find someone who will. a 305 is over 12" wide and has a approved rim width of probably 9-11 inches. your rims being 8" wide dont fall into that. as well as the tire not being a load range E and your truck calling for a E load range. some places are finicky about it. what i did to get around it for a buddy was told them it was for an offroad drag truck and said it wasnt hauling anything just used to make passes on the strip and they did it. but yes 305/50/20 is the tallest size they make in the tire which coming from a stock tire that is 34" tall to a 32" tall tire it may look funny. post pics when your done though. prolly would look awesome on a slightly lowered truck.

Maybe I'll just take the wheels off to get them mounted and balanced haha. Thanks for the reasoning makes sense now I suppose. I would like to slap 20x12s on there but don't want to do fender flares and cops are here are picky about tires sticking out past the wheel well.

thats one way to do it. Man if cops did that around here they could write tickets all day long. they way it is around here if you aint on x12's or x14's with "stance" your not "cool" my 20x10's do just fine for me lol. i did just do a set for a duramax with 20x12 and 305/50/20 nitto 420s. it actually didnt looks too stretched at all.
