So I went on a trip this weekend and I was driving on the autobahn at about 100mph for extended periods of time and at one point my oil temp was 235 and my coolant was 190. Does this mean oil cooler? I was told awhile back that I should only worry if my coolant is hotter then the oil!

I don't know if there is a normal Delta for 100 MPH

whats does it do at sane speeds ( delta's) ?
LOL a PSD on the Autobahn that has got to Be intimidating to the Go Fasts
they likely won't bumper tag you for going slow

I say your still fine for now but would be planning on a oil cooler swap in the future
being our trucks are as arrow dynamic as a house IDK if I would expect a normal Delta at 100 MPH??

and I can't go test it out on My end to see

that is called Felony speeding Here LOL

psh In Texas thats only 10 over. LOL

What were your egts at running it that hard for so long? I did over that in my 6.4 running from Dallas to Hillsboro and my egts just kept going up until I backed off. About 45 mins in to it I started to wonder how long the mud grapplers could sustain 100+ mph. I was more concerned with a blowout at that speed then I was with engine failure.

what's wrong with 100mph??? just a good cruising speed

I agree, on the cooler plugging up. Back when mine plugged up it was similar (but at slower speeds lol) at 80MPH I could see a 25+ degree delta oil hotter than coolant, and had to drop speeds down to 65mph to maintain about a 10° delta.

Coolant flow through the oil cooler gets stopped up, so coolant temp stays relatively the same, but oil temp starts to rise as there is little to no heat transfer, THEN if you haven't blocked off the EGR cooler you might rupture the EGR cooler. The EGR cooler is downstream of the oil cooler, so a blockage at the oil cooler results in less coolant inside the EGR cooler and thus less coolant to make the heat transfer from hot exhaust gasses to coolant, and the little coolant inside the EGR cooler can flash boil and rupture the cooler. This is why Ford made it a policy whenever an EGR cooler was replaced, the oil cooler was also replaced.

I did some logging back a couple years ago when I was laid off and bored out of my mind, to see what everything was at 100mp, surprisingly once it got up to that speed it held it rather easily, I think my EGT's were in the 850-950 range depending on how much throttle I gave to keep it at 100. That was on Erics X-street tune. Didn't check EOT or ECT though, didn't have the gauges for it at the time.

Not to muck up your thread op but I have a 10 deg higher oil temp holding through from MI to OR. 75mph steady. 190 ect and 200 eot. Holds this for hours at a time on I-80. Is this too much? Thanks.
