I can pick up a garret 4202 t4 with a 1.15 housing journal bearing for dirt cheap. My question is,how will this do with my 238/200's towing? I hate the charger i have now and was thinking of a billet wheel 468 but like i said i can get the 4202 CHEAP. So will it be be a good charger or to much for my 238's?

Its big, like the same size as an s475. I think for towin it would keep egts manageable but unloaded it would be a bit laggy. The 4094 is of comparable size as a s468, i wish they would would produce a gtx version of the 4094

I towed with an S475/83 which is nearly identical and you had to keep the RPMs too high IMO.

I wouldn't go bigger then a 68 with an 83 exhaust wheel if the trucks primary purpose is towing. A single 66mm with 100-200% nozzles works great for me.

Id agree with anyone saying no to it. For a tow pig. A 4202 is a 75mm comp wheel right ?

Ive towed with mine in the mountains. My boat cover used to be greenish... Now its black

I didn't like anything about my 4202 but the dyno numbers. Laggy, smokey, hard to drive. Made big power but wouldn't do anything until like 2300-2400 rpms. Towing was out of the question. I live at a higher elevation though, spent most of its time at 4500+ feet. I tried both the 1.15 and 1.01 housings. Ended up taking the turbo off and going smaller. That was over 3 years ago now though, lot has changed in this market since then.

Agreed. Even at sea level the smoke was hard to control.

Tuning has come a long way. The 4202 and s475 are essentially very similar in size yes ?

I can control smoke with my right foot.

That being said you drive the truck around the turbo. Having the PCS really helps for changing shift points

I ran a custom 76/87ish give or take a few mm on my puller and it honestly wasn't that bad. But it was also ball bearing. Didn't have a lot of lag but it deffenatly had some... Cleaned my 350s up to a very light haze. I wouldn't want to try that turbo in a jb version hooked to a trailer.

I did lol. Like I said the cover on my boat change from a key lime green to soot black in 5 hours of driving.
On flat its not bad, its the hills that screw you because it takes some much velocity to get the turbo to move and by that time your either screaming up the hill with over 2.5MS of PW or your lugging in OD under 2000 rpm.

Its a chore to tow with in the hills. On the flat part of my trip it was fine. That being said the tune was a one shot update off my drag file so. Im sure you could make it better, but if its a dedicated tow vehicle, dont waste your time. Billet 66.

I have a gtx4202r with 350/400's or something along those lines... I can tow, but its certainly not an ideal setup by any means. I am however going to down size nozzles which should help with smoke and EGT's while loaded. Empty the setup is just fine, loaded is the only problem.
