Okay guys, I used to own 2007 6.0L that decided to blow up one to many times. :biggun: So I am now the proud owner of a 2008 6.4L! Its bone stock right now with 96,000 miles on it. It is also a manual which i'm digging a lot. I'm looking to start modifying it but don't want another 6.0 problem like before so i had a few questions about things.
How reliable are the head bolts. I know they went back to the 6 bolts per cylinder but when do you need to do studs. ( I know that everyone will say ASAP but i'm more asking at what amount of power will they start failing)
Also do 6.4L generally tune like the 6.0L? Do most guys still use SCT or Livewire?
eventually, when i have the cash flow, want to push around 550-600 HP. this is my daily driver so i'm not going to crazy... yet lol
Whats some good things to watch out for on this truck and what are little things guys are doing to make the truck more reliable when adding power.

Thanks guys for reading this and giving me any advise. I'll supply a case of beer sometime for being the new guy to the party lol

1. Sorry but you still have 4 per cylinder.
2. If your 6.0 kept blowing up you better not let the retard that worked on it touch your 6.4.
3. D3lete it asap.
4. Stock head bolts seem to hold up pretty well with stock turbo/fuel.
5. Welcome

The 6.7 went to 6 bolts. But the 6.4 has 16mm bolts vs 14mm on the 6.4.

If you plan on running a big tune I'd suggest getting a clutch for it cause the stocker isn't happy past a hot street tune from my experience lol. Welcome btw. Glad to see another manual truck on here.

As said above still 4 per cylinder but on stock turbo and fuel they hold up pretty well. The clutch is okay as long as you do not run it in the hottest tune all the time. But just a exhaust and tune will do your goal of the 550-600hp you would be really happy with just that should not really ever need to add turbo or extra fuel if that is your ultimate goal. Let me know if you need anything.

yeah i've been reading up on the velair and the southbound. And thanks for the input. Do you tune the 6.4 with a SCT like the 6.0's or does it have a newer set up? i see guys talking about 350 or some tunes like that, i didn't know if that was different?

We tune with a SCT X4 or a mini max both have their pros and cons with features, pricing etc.... So just depends on what exactly you are looking for. We have used both South Bend and Valair and both work great and have not given us any issues.
