I say it depends on what you're looking to spend. It'll probably cost at least twice what you'll spend on a 6.4 to get a 6.7 to 800hp. Reason being is having to build the bottom end of the engine in the 6.7.

That being said, I feel like the 6.7 has more potential for making huge power because of its technology (better/reverse flow heads, higher injection pressures, ext...) but that's not really your goal. So it all comes down to how much you want to spend and which truck you like better.

One more thought is, 6.4's aren't known to have very reliable pistons (at high hp) so you may have to end up building the bottom end in one of those too lol. It's a toss up

well either way, to get either one to "live" you're probaly going to have to open the motor up. 6.7 will need rods , 6.4 will need pistons. either one will make 800 pretty easily, but the fuel only power will be much easier attained with a 6.7 . as well, turbo sizing isnt nearly as delicate because the 6.7 will out spool the 6.4 all day long.

With the potential the 6.7 is starting to show, I would put rods in one way before I would build a 6.4 to handle lots of power. The random 6.4 piston failures scare the hell out of me.

6.7, much more enjoyable foundation to start from.

The 6.4 looks like a fisher price toy, to me at least.

The engineering that went into a 6.7 is phenomenal. Everything was well thought out. The electrical system, harnesses, modules, connectors, materials, reliable rockers (also due to the spray bars), accessibility, head flow, and even down to the nuts and bolts. They also have integrated spray bars, and an excellent CCV system from the factory. Huge improvement from the 6.0/6.4

The 6.4 does have a stout bottom end though, and a hpfp that has serious volume, that 'can' make it more economical to make power. It's just more of a time bomb, some have more luck than others.
