Alternator Issue

I have the dual alt package on my 2004. The battery light comes on in the morning for about 2 minutes if the truck has sat over night. On my SCT cluster it reads around 11.4volts. After I pull out of the packing lot it goes up to between 13.1 and 13.8 and fluctuates. I've never seen it go over 14. Is there a voltage regulator that would cause this or is one of my alternators going out? Is there a way to test each one while they are still on the truck?

Test it with a multi meter. My in dash reads approx .5v lower than at the battery. The voltage will be low at first due to the glow plugs and while they are on, the computer will not let the alternator charge.

You should see higher than 11.4v at idle, even with the GP's on. I'm not as familiar with the dual alternator set up as the single......does each alternator have two wires connected to it via a 3 pin connector? Both of those wires should have 12v after the GP's have cycled.

You can also disconnect your batteries with the truck off and check their voltage (each should be around 12.3 - 12.6v).

And it probably goes without saying that you should check all of your connections. Make sure they're secure and corrosion free.

Check the battery indicator.light in the dash, it can cause funky issues with your alternator. I had some weird issues and that bulb was dimmer than the rest. It was replaced and.never had an.issue since
