are all 6.0 head gaskets the same other than dowel size?

well im asking a dumb question i havent looked for this answer anywhere else yet. but ive seen where wen u lookin at head gaskets it says will fit applications after 9/?/03... well i thought that would have been all 6.0s before the 20mm in 06. reason i ask is i jus got a truck in for studs and the build date is 12/02... i was like wtf it shoulda still had the 7.3 i thought. im assuming the reg 18mm gaskets will work but i wanna make sure

yes because u can use stepped dowels for some so all the ports/passages and what not are the same some have even enlarged the 18mm when they ordered the wrong ones (not suggested)
but I am confused why you don't think yours are the 18mm of did i get confused LOL

no im sure they are 18s because its an 03 engine but im curious as to y they labeled them for after build dates 9/03 cuz my build is 12/02

Well it's certainly possible for an 03 to have 20mm heads... any time Ford did any work on them they put the newer heads on. So if it had heads replaced at Ford any time after the 06 roll out, they would have likely got the 20mm heads. It's completely possible for an earlier truck to have one 18mm head and one 20mm.

there are 3 different head gaskets

18mm OEM/Ford head gasket for 6.0L Power Stroke diesels buillt BEFORE 9/30/2003.

18mm OEM/Ford head gasket for 6.0L Power Stroke diesels buillt BETWEEN 9/30/03 - 1/15/06.

20mm OEM/Ford head gasket for 6.0L Power Stroke diesels with build date AFTER 1/15/2006.

i believe i figured it out. the gaskets are the same. its jus the late 03 kits come with standpipes for 04.5+ trucks. whereas the early 03 had threaded stand pipes. the blocks are all the same minus the dowels
