Well I wanna get my truck studded. My problem is money as always. I can afford the parts it's the labor I can't. I can handle doing it my self. I work on ag equipment for a living as a diesel tech. My shop doesn't have a lift.... I've been told it can be done cab on. So I'm looking on advice on what would be the best way to do it with out paying for someone to do it... Thanks for advice in advance

Unbolt all of your body mounts, take a tractor or floor jacks and get the cab up about 4" and block it between frame and body. This give you much more room to do everything. The HVAC cover can be removed with like 10 screws and that is about the only thing you need to remove that isnt obvious.

Make sure you put a couple of the studs into the bed before installing, makes it a bunch easier. Also make sure the block is as clean as can be and that you have the head magd and decked.
Call me if you need any advice on it, we did our first couple with the cab on. But ever since the cabs have come off and i wont ever do it cab on again, too hard on the body

Why not just pull it out the front and do it on a stand? I'd rather take a little extra time and do that instead of having bruised ribs for a week...

This is another way to do it... depends on if your comfortable with it or not.

To some pulling the motor seems like a huge chore that they may never be able to get back to perfect, when really its fairly simple.
My only complaint with pulling the motor is getting it mated back up to the transmission can be a real bear!

When you work flat rate you do it fast and right the first time

I can understand in a case of working flat rate. But he is working on his personal truck. It only takes a half hour or so after draining the coolant to get the front end torn down if you know what your doing. Remove turbo, uppipes, disconnect any wiring or grounds, unbolt tc, remove bell housing bolts, engine mount bolts, and that should be about it. Fairly simple in my mind.

:edit I forgot about the power steering pump, and AC as well. I'm sure I'm forgetting more but either way.

Maybe you know something i dont about doing them with the cab on, i can usually have a cab off in 2 hours, then i can leave the intake manifold on top of the motor pull the heads from under it that way i dont have to mess with the fuel bowl and those hard lines that never seem to line back up right. Im not knocking what your doing just seems ALOT easier with the cab over you head.

Well thanks for the info guys!!! I would love to pull the cab for pure simplicity!! Pulling the motor is an option but idk if I will have the extra space to do it I will only have the shop for a weekend to get it done!

As for the heads I've got a buddy that works nights at a machine shop he said he would do them when I get them off and he would have them the next day for me if I choose to go this route

Just make sure to mag them.... lots and lots of diesel heads can be cracked but not showing any issues now. As soon as you put the extra stress on them with studs you have the opportunity to open those cracks up and suddenly your leaking water or something that you werent before the job.
