Deck plate

I keep hearing about these, I seem to remember a thread on PSN. Just wondering, why they need to be used and what they do.

Used to stiffen and align the block during boring,simulates the heads being bolted to the block

Would like to use one when I bore out my block. It's not essential to have. Just a little better way to machine the block.

I'm going to have a block sleeved and I was thinking this is something I need to make sure is being done by the machinist, just couldn't remember why. I seem to remember there was one that someone was renting out at one time?

There was one that was on Ebay for about $275. About a year ago. Guess it would be nice to have and rent out.

Torque plate is a more common name

Are you talking about a torque plate for machining - or a deck plate for extending the cylinder bores out of the block ala pulling tractor style?

Apparently I'm actually talking about a torque plate, did some research and deck plate is used to lengthen an engines bore. Very interesting read actually. I guess ricers use them and now they are using them to make 500ci LS1's.

So yea, torque plate for 7.3
