EDGE Do's and Don't

I have a good friend that recently bought an early 99 that came with an Edge programmer on it. Yes I know it isn't the greatest thing, but is is on there and works. Neither of us know anything about them and we want ot be sure we don't blow something up working around it. Does unplugging it cause any problems? Since it is plugged into the diagnostic port it has to unplugged to use a diagnostic scanner. Also I just posted in the tech section about a "hiccup" the truck had today that included the edge display going to a blue screen . Unplugging the display seem to "reboot" it. Any input appreciated! It seems like the model of the Edge might be 24412?

If it's on a truck with an Auto trans, then remove it fast. Unless he wants to buy a trans.

If it's a 6spd, then it's ok. Still not as good as a custom tuned chip

I get that, working on him to change it out. Many things to do at once right now. Meantime I just want to be sure we don't blow up the PCM or the Edge while working on the truck.
