Exhaust popping noise

I’m going to compression test tomorrow and see what I come up with, like you guys stated I’m pretty positive it’s got a bad exhaust valve. What kind of damage do you usually find?

For sure cracked valve. I’d recommend replacing both heads. But you could probably get away with doing a valve job and replacing all exhaust valves if cost is an issue.

Like the 6.4s. I'm not seeing many of these engines make it passed 200k without a catastrophic failure(not including fuel system)
Hope that is not the case, my 2014 is at 185K now.

So far I have had some aftertreatment issues, but thermostat housing leak is the only other thing it has gotten fixed.
Oh, it blew a cooler boot off one day it is still running with a cheapo hose clamp on it.

Trans acts funny but keeps hanging in there.

Cracked exhaust valves were the cause of the popping noise.

It’s free of all restrictions, and has been for a long time. The guy who owns the truck doesn’t run it hard either.
