I just replaced the pump tonight. The truck sits on 37's. It DOES NEED upper and lower balljoints. Anyways, it is extremely hard to turn the wheel once you hit 15 degrees in either direction. But, recently, it has gotten bad to where when it is within that 15 degree tolerance from straight, the wheels stick. It has become very annoying to drive and it is hard to keep it in one lane.

To clarify, if the truck drifts in one direction and I correct it, the steering wheel sticks in the position I put it in to correct the drift. Like I said, I replaced the pump tonight. What else could it be? Gear box?

Something seized or the box is junk.

Disconnect the cross link tie rod and the drag link from the box at the spindle.

Suspend the front end an turn the wheels manually back and forth. This will tell you if you've got a seized ball joint.

I would suspect you've got a ballpoint seizing up.

If that checks out ok disconnect the rod end from the pitman arm and start the truck, turn the steering wheel. If the box is no good it will be tight without the linkage attached.

Hth.

Something to check to would be the front u joints. Had a frozen(rusted) up one on mine and truck would just start wondering from side to side with out me moving the wheel. Seemed to happen more after a tight turn.

Will do. Thanks a lot guys. Let's say that I do need a new gear box, is there a company that makes pretty heavy duty one?

That's spooky when you're rolling down the road and BAM you're in the other lane.

Not only that but the truck doesn't have to be in 4x4 to do it, either.
