Hey guys and girls. Its been awhile since I've been on and there have been some pretty significant changes made to the truck (AKA Stormtrooper). Last time i posted here my rig was a pretty much stock truck with the usual bolt on's, MBRP turbo back, SCT canned tune and a couple other little things. After lots of research and talking to VGT and non VGT owners i finally decided to move forward with the build. I went through Hurricane Diesel out of Spokane Valley. I can't speak highly enough about these guys and what a great job they did.

As for the build the i decided on a Borg Warner SXE 66mm turbo, MPD T4 conversion kit, DDP 190/100 injectors, sinister regulated fuel return, new sinister egr ******, sinister coolant filter kit, Mishimoto aluminum radiator, BPD billet water pump, stage 1 colt cam, ARP studs, S&B cai, custom tunes and unfortunately a new block as the water jackets on the original block were bad. I maybe forgetting a couple things. As of right now my FICM is un-tuned, stock trans, HPOP and lift pump. Once i have the funds these will all be addressed and upgraded to get the full potential out of the engine.

The truck runs exceptionally well and is very quick. The spool is slower than a VGT truck but still decent. Daily driving is great with no issues being a non VGT and once that turbo spools she takes off like a rocket. Turbo whistle from the exhaust is nothing compared to a VGT truck but the interior turbo noise from the charger is significantly louder. I thought losing the signature 6.0 turbo whistle would bother me since i love that sound but after hearing a non vgt 6.0 i can say i don't miss it at all. As of right now the only minor issue is getting the tuning perfected. There is a mild lope/miss when the truck idles. I've gone through ********** and gear head tuning. I must say im pretty disappointed with both companies at the moment. ********** tunes were extremely laggy on the highway and the transmission was always looking for a gear or sticking, The ******** tunes run the best but there seems to be a lag in throttle response after your foot is taken of the gas. Almost like it takes a second for the truck to realize your foot is off the gas. Other than that everything is great and i couldn't be happier. Id like to hear form other Non VGT 6.0 owners rather it be thoughts or opinions on your setups and what you like don't like or any issues. Still waiting to get the engine tuning perfected and the FICM tune uploaded to do a dyno run. As soon as a dyno run is done i'll update the post with the numbers.

Now for the pics :naughty:...

I gotta 06 with obvious ******, exhaust and custom gear head tune. I got the itch to put a non vgt on it cause I found the whole setup dirt cheap with an s366. Slapped it on their and am loving it. Yes it's a little laggy.. but I have stock headbolts and still on the same tune for a stock vgt. Sounds great though! Maxes 35psi boost. Looking forward to seeing your numbers! When funds allow, I'll be tossing injectors and a set of studs in as well. Build looks great!

Nice! I just had this done to mine over December. Like you I had tuning issues and finally got them corrected. Not sure if it helps but warren diesel did my tuning for me and it is spot on.

FICM tuning was probably the single biggest improvement in spool up on my non VGT setup. I doubt you'll see higher peak HP or TQ numbers with it, but it's definitely worth it just for drivability.

IDP tunes mine and got it pretty spot on the first try, but I'm on stock injectors too, and I think that makes a huge difference.

Looks great. Exact plan I’d go with, still searching for the right truck though. I was thinking 190/75 or 190/30 maybe 205/30? Not sure yet. Def a 366sxe.

Something with bigger than 30 nozzles would probably be your best bet with a 366SXE I would say. I personally would go with 190/100s if I was going to run a 66mm charger, maybe 75 nozzles depending on what you were planning to go with on the exhaust side of that turbo.
