So I have a whole bunch of slop in the gear selector on my truck. Sometimes I have to try a couple times to get it into gear. I checked the plastic adjustment piece at the trans and everything is fine there, so it appears to be the cable in the steering column.

How hard is it to change that out? Is there some directions anywhere? I'm gonna start taking stuff apart tomorrow to see what I can see.

Also does anyone have a part number for the cable?

.

Are you sure it's not the torx screws at the base of the column?

Seem pretty common...

Mine actually broke last year, kind of out of no where. I bought it new at Ford, comes with everything needed to do it (the correct ends on the cable) It was like $70 I think from the local dealer. It really wasn't that bad to do actually. I think I just popped the dash off to make it easier to get at, but I can't remember. It really wasn't too difficult though. Once you see the new cable you'll kind of see how it comes apart.
