I'm thinking about upgrading my HP turbo this summer and have narrowed it down to these three. I am currently running a GT4088R so the GTX would drop right in so that is a plus. I haven't heard of anyone running either Precision on a 6.4. Any info would be great.

I would personally go with a gen 2 pte over a Garrett.

I can't remember the rest of the details on your truck as far as fueling, engine, etc... What are you using for an atmo?

I'm impartial to the gtx chargers myself. My only concern would be the light weight parts of a precision holding up to the abuse that the hp turbo sees. Probably won't go wrong with either set up as long as you keep pressures in check

The 64 and 68 are the same frame size as a gt40, the larger chargers by precision are a different story.

Midwest dual fuel RCD 60% Injectors and a water cooled Precision 8284. The engine is stock besides a ported intake and head studs.

My vote would be the 6466 because it'll spool faster and flow more air than the 4088.

I don't think you have a ton to gain by increasing the size of the high pressure so I would lean toward what's going to provide the faster spool up.

That's what I'm after. The only problem I have with the air cooled Precision's is the fact that they aren't necessarily known for their durability and being the HP charger it will be subject to 100% of the heat and pressure. Just a quick Google search pulled that road racers prefer the Garrett's because the Precision's grenade themselves when subjected to repeated high boost and temps.

The reason I mentioned the 6870 is because 4088r does great but the turbine is huge and when under 10psi takes some time to spool and with the turbine on 6870 still being smaller it would still be a great charger even with the larger compressor.

Edit: I just checked and the 6870 turbine is slightly bigger.

The 6870 is a larger turbine.
6870 turbine: 70/79
Gt40 turbine: 68/77
6466 turbine: 66/74

Like I said they're all the same frame size, I don't see why pte air cooled center sections are a bad design but Borgs are considered bulletproof.

Pte definitely had a time where their quality control slipped big time and their reputation is still recovering from that.

You have upgraded valvetrain right?

Yeah I caught the turbine size discrepancy. It gets kind of tricky converting Garrett to Precision and vice versa . I think the problem is the fact that they are ball bearing and BB turbos use very little oil so all the cooling is done by air where journal bearing turbos have a ton of oil going through them that helps with cooling.
