heater controls

everyone talks about the truck always defaults to defrost when somethong in the heating system goes down. my truck is stuck in the dash vent area. won't move anywhere else. I've already taken the glove box out and played with the actuator behind it. moving it up and down does very little to change anything. if anything it blows a little on the floor. my blend door actuator is working correctly and I have cleaned and watched it. is there another actuator rod that opens a door for the defrost? I've been stuck on this for weeks and no solid answers
