Got a test and tune coming up at local drag strip and my buddy has a completely stock 6.7 and mine is deleted and tuned. Well to make a long story short he wants to run his and me run mine and see what they do. Well I've been running mine in the 200 race tune and haven't really gone full throttle because when I hit it hard I hit 1300 ish and I don't wanna melt stuff. So curious for guys tuned up how hot is to hot on the egt??

Your not going to hurt anything running it through the 1/4 or any other time really. I've held mine on the floor in my highest tune pulling 15-20k pounds up hills and all is still fine. You would have a hard time melting anything down on these motors. They're cooled very efficiently.

A good rule of thumb a lot of people say is this...
1200 or below is good for sustained amounts of time like going up grades and what not
1400 is ok for 30 seconds, like to pass someone or merge on a highway
1800 is ok for a drag run or sled pull

My 6.0, 6.4 and my 6.7 I have them set @ 1500. That being said I have a 16,500 LB 5th wheel and a 38FT Gooseneck trailer. Pulling the heavy trailers up a grade that last more than 45 second I personally would not go above 1400 for a long period of time or more than 1 min. Drag racing with my 6.0 I could never get it below 1600. Never had a problem ran it for over 250K miles.

I been well over 1800 on my 6.4, I maxed out what my egt gauge would read and it took two seconds before it started to drop at the end of a sled pull

1500, even 1600 just messing around is fine, I'm ok with hitting 1800 messing around, because it's only for a little bit of time less than a few seconds
