so i am 20year old and in the army since i graduated highschool. just got my first commonrail a 04 f350 4door 4x4 shortbed

background. owned and keep my 72bug running throught out highschool (if you owned one you know 4years of maintance is fun)
got a 84 f250 6.9l with a turbo, high low rear vender, a 97 full float dually axle. loved the truck but the wiring harness blew out on me about after a year, and the injectors went out but they were 400$ with a return kit not 3000$ :D

anyways the 6.9 really turned me onto diesel i wanted to keep that as my truck but i was inneed of something that didnt blow up all the time. i loved to germany and bought a vw gti and i hated that thing with a passion. missed diesel so much right before deployment i made my mind up and got my loan and went truck shoping on block leave break. while i sit here in afganistan i am trying to build up my mod list and how to make my 6.0 bullet proof. iv been reading a lot of articales in magazines on how this is possible too. so theres more then just a egr and oil cooler change for me.

the 04 is decesntly clean. 198000ish miles on it when i bought it, i got it to almost 200k before i left in. it had 8 new injectors done 1 year ago, egr couple months ago, the head gasket and apr studs. that and it was the cleanest ford i could find in my price rang at the time. and since it had all the problems solved i loved it more

i will be asking a lot of questions on proformance parts and some other things. i am a guy who turns his own wrenchs and will do all my own mods. i want to build a 4link with airbags so my 84 is my test truck for all my crazyness i like to play aroudn and build. all in all this will be my new daily driver so i want it to be smooth with a lot of power to have fun with, might get to tow depends on what i do with the money from deployment. i am not into lifts and huge tires, i dont really deleave in mudding a diesel but its plan is to be a tow rig for all my 4x4 friends

I couldn't tell if you were planning on getting a CR truck, or not, but in case you're talking about the 6oh, that is Heui, not CR. If you're doing research that will help.

The 6.4 was the first CR ford.

:welcome: and as stated before, you do not have a CR, but you will learn if you stick around here.

Heui is hydraulicly actuated electronicly controled. It's high pressure oil that actuates an electronic injector. Common rail is high pressure fuel.

:whs: The 7.3 and the 6.0 Power Strokes use HEUI injection. Which is pretty much an injector that uses electronics to control it, and high pressure oil to actuate it. Common rail uses electronics, but it does not use high pressure oil. Instead, it uses high pressure fuel.

There are pluses and minuses to both, but most would say the common rail is a more preferred system. Don't get discouraged though. You can make a good bit of power with HEUI too. Just give the injectors enough fuel, more oil, and use them at the right time, and you will see some power.

The other downfall to the Power Stroke is the fuel system. Look up what is called a "regulated return", and that will take care of that.

Since you are a 6.0 owner, you have other issues that need to be addresses that the 7.3 does not. The major one being the EGR system.

Just keep reading and you will learn more and more each day.

Good luck, and have fun with the truck!

HEUI=Hydraulic Electronic UNIT Injection

It is a Bosch system that Caterpilliar has been utilizing for years. There is also a EUI that CAT uses and it is still refered to a UNIT injection than a common rail.

In a common rail the fuel pressure is made by a pump (normally a Bosch cp3 type )and after the fuel pump there is High pressure up to 30,000 psi in the "common rail".

In a UNIT injection the fuel is pumped to the injectors but at a much lower psi compared to common rail. 100 psi-to 1000 psi. In the injector itself (normally driven by the camshaft) makes its High Pressure for the injection cycle.

There is alot more involved I just wanted to give a quik summary of the two systems for ya...
