Last night on the highway at about 60 my CEL came on so I checked it this morning and it was a P0401 EGR insufficient flow.

Couldnt come at a worse time as Ill be driving about 700 miles next sunday. My worry is obviously that something will happen on the way down.

I reset the code and will see if it comes back but I know that the potential for a clogged egr cooler or valve exists.

The last month or so the truck has been not been seeing the daily 80mph highway stretches it has been used to. More around town crap. Could this be the problem since it doesnt see as much load?

My question is I have 81k on the truck right now and I was eventually planning on deleting, already have a mini maxx race tuner, so should I preemptively go ahead and delete and tune? Or should I take it to the dealer and just prepare to pay out the ass not only for diag but possible replacement for parts I plan on getting rid of around 100k anyways? I put around 20k on it a year normally.

Your engine should be covered under the 5 year/100k miles Power Stroke warranty. EGR valve should be included in that. If thats the case, you wouldnt have to pay for it. But on the other side of it, youll be much happier deleting it and not having to worry about all those things anymore. Just a thought.

I got the same code a couple weeks ago. Dealer ran a egr test, came back fine. Cleared code, sent me on my way. No issues since. Sometimes the code just happens.

Update, since a lot of threads seem to go nowhere nowadays. Drove to vegas from Idaho and no issues.

Side bar, anyone who lives in Boise, specifically ada or canyon county, know if they look for deleted trucks or just do the obd 2 test?
