Having trouble with a PCM. Truck came in idling high and would die once hot. Tracked it down to the PCM being programmed as an automatic trans truck and its actually a manual. Go to reprogram the PCM and it won't accept any kind of update. Now that I've tried that the truck won't start only cranks.

When trying to reprogram it gives an error code and says the PCM is blank.

Ordered a new PCM and still getting the same error code when trying to program it.

Anybody with IDS experience please chime in

Here's a pic of the IDS error screen

Have a used PCM out of an auto truck and it will start but when you try to reprogram it, IDS will go all the way through the PCM, FICM, and then once it gets to the tcm reprogram it'll freeze up and say unable to complete. Not that it needs a tcm program since its a manual but it's weird how it'll reflag this old PCM but not the new reman unit straight from ford.

I'm lost to say the least

Leave key off.

Attempt vehicle identification.

Keep hitting ok when it asks for key on but leave it off.

Eventually it will ask you to manually identify the vehicle.

Put in the tear tag off the original PCM. If its right, it should show up as 6.0 manual trans.

Perform PMI from there, cycling the key when told to.

Blank path programming 101.

Booya!!!! It worked. I appreciate it man!

Can you tell me why when programming the new PCM it still goes through programming the TCM? Being a manual I didn't figure it would need anything for that

Just curious

Some of the OBDII software is actually located in the TCM, so both programs must be in synch or the whole system doesn't work.

When it was my job to release the 6.0L transmission software for production I had to release automatic and manual trans software to the TCM. It was because of the OBDII software.
