Rough Idle

I have a buddy that has a late 03. After its been sitting for at least hour, when he starts it up it idles rough and kinda choppy. If he drives it, it runs rough. After 2-3 miles it straightens up and runs great. He is wanting to throw injectors at it, I don't have AE but I may be able to get it hooked up later in the week. Anyone have any suggestions what to check first? I am just a low hp 7.3 guy but told him I had a few resources I could try first!

Check FICM voltage and make sure the harness isn't chaffed, Make sure his battery's are up to snuff.. Could be real bad injector spool valve sticktion also..

Checked the batteries, both are 3 months old. AE will tell me FICM voltage correct?

Yes. But the slow scan rate and filtering on monitors can miss some voltage drops. Best to measure with meter at cold start.

Problem actually sounds like injector stiction.

It can depending on how bad the sticktion problems is.. Any sticktion issue I have had, the problem would go away within 3-4 minutes..

Yes, stiction clears based on oil temp

Has he tried any type of injector cleaner or anything of the sort?

He hasn't tried anything other than Diesel Kleen yet, but he called me today and thinks he may have a pump issue. AE should be on it's way to his house. As soon as we can get it hooked I should know more.
