So in Idle when I apply the brake the RPM's drop a bit. Im thinking this could mean a vacuum leak in the steering box? Do not know if I am way off or not. My understanding the steering runs with the brakes, could be way off again. I have a good amount of play in my wheel also so did not know if the two are linked.

Way off. Brakes are hydroboost, ran off the power steering.
Diesels don't make intake vacuum like a gasser.

It's normal to hear feel a slight rpm change, as already said it's putting a load on the ps pump when brakes are applied, so you get a slight rpm dip.
