SES light - no codes

When I start my truck after sitting for a while, the SES light stays lit. If I turn the key off, then back on, the SES light will go off and I can start the truck normally and it runs fine. If I don't turn the key off and I try to start the truck with the SES light lit, it will romp until I turn it off.

I took it to the shop that usually works on my truck and had them check for codes, but their were none. I haven't had time (money) to leave it there for an in depth diagnosis. Any ideas? Thanks.

Truck is bone stock 2001 w/ 150k. Use Rotella 15W-40, changed last week.

If the light has ever been on, unless it is cleared, there is a code. If the shop can't read the code, they need a better scanner.

Sounds like you need to find a shop with a decent scanner, or buy one yourself. Like Arisley said, IF the light has been on, there is a code stored.

If you work on the truck yourself, get AE, it will pay for itself in no time.

If you just need a simple, efficient code reader, I think there is an app you can get, with an OBDII dongle for less than 100 bucks.
