there's a store here in buffalo that installs remote starts. they have many different models and i just wanted a basic, simple, on/off remote. i hope it doesn't mess anything up as it is only 240 bucks installed. the remote box was $90 and the data link was $70...

anyone here have aftermarket remote starts that aren't ford? issues with them also if any?

here's what it is.

Can't you just have ford turn yours with ids? Get the right keychains?

I've had aftermarket remote start systems on 2 trucks. A 6.0 and a 6.4. Both worked awesome. No problems. Though they were the full security system too... so not just a simple single remote start like you're asking about.

I have had several remote starts on several 7.3 trucks everything from the 70$ BS one from autozone to the top end AST unit and never any problems don't nt forget to set the time delay for glow plugs.

6.7s dont need but about 6 seconds for gp.. lol.. but it has like a 20 or 30 second delay so the fuel pump gets primed well.. has a 45 min run time on it too!!

I have a Compustar on my OBS and the Same one on my 6.4, have/had good luck with both. One thing I liked it had a turbo timer on it as well set it for 4 min set the parking brake and it would shut off on its own.

Aftermarket remote start systems are JUNK. I've seen them destroy Body Control Modules (BCMs), ignition switches, and starters. The chinese made modules can fail, and cause the starter to remain engaged and crank until the battery dies. They are crap.

Not only that, but the installers often use quick splices (scotch locks) to install these systems. That ruins the factory circuits, while also providing a poor connection for the remote start system.

The best thing you can do is go with the Ford Accessory Remote Start system. Its worth every penny compared with the ****ty aftermarket units that will result in damage to your vehicle and a voided warranty.
