so i got my truck and i didnt get any tools with it ie to lower the spare tire and the lug wrench...all i got was the bottle jack...anyways i decided yesterday to drop the spare so if i did have a flat i can get to my spare. so i went to my buddys house that has an 03 as well, what i didnt know is the key/adapter wouldnt work..?? so should i just cut the plate holding the spare on and remove the "hoisting" system or should i go to the stealership and get the key...and how much do u guys think they are?? i am sure they would have to order one..i was planning to take the spare tire off so i can move my exaust away from my shock...and to drop a lil weight..

You might be able to get it like i got mine. You need a 9/16 12 point socket and a long extension. Beat the socket on there and if your lucky it'll catch and you can turn it down with a ratchet.

You should be able to just pull the plastic piece (tube) that guides the tool into the lock off, then pull the lock off. Then you can just use the flat end of the tool.

I used the 12pt socket trick, I hammered in a cheap harbor freight one. I have a tool bag in my truck all the time so it made it easier to pull the spare. Last time I just inserted like 18" of extentions and used my drill and it was down and off in no time. There are quite a few combos for the locks so if the dealer soes not have a set of them you will have to pull yours and take it to them. They cannot get the correct one from the vin or so I am told. It might be possible to pull the lock with the tire up but when I looked at it it sure seemed like a pita.
