Taking forever to go into reverse and drive.

Friend of mine just got trans build. He was having a problem with the trans going into reverse and drive. It would take about 6 seconds to engage. I believe it is the solenoid problem but he said he gave the guy who built it 1 new solenoid to put in. Ive not messed with 5r trannies so im lost...any input? Which solenoids effect the direct drive part?

The answer to your question, above, is the direct clutch solenoid.

But to answer what I think you mean, there isn't one solenoid. The direct clutch solenoid isn't involved with drive engagements.

Yep i figured that. Were gonna swap out direct clutch solenoid and line pressure solenoid. But his tow/haul flashed today, is that related with the problem?

Yeah, thatll happen when it sets a code. Hope the solenoid fixes it, mine did that, then after solenoid replacement, about a month later the clutches were fried.
