I bought a 2011 F350 with a 6.7 with 50k on it, I worked into the deal a full service that changed all the fluids and filters. I noticed the typewriter noise the first night I brought it home. At 55k I changed the oil using delo 5w40, hoping that it would make a difference being that the ford dealership put 10w30 in it when they seviced the truck previously. To my disappointment I noticed the typewriter noise immediately when I first fired it up after the delo oil change. After 1000 miles or so the noise went away. I had been reading about the problem and thought it was something I was going to have to live with. Now @ 60k I changed the oil again and used mobile 1 5w40. To my surprise the noise is completely gone! The truck idles smother and is quiter under load. I don't know if this will work for everybody and I know it's an expensive oil change, but if the typewriter noise bothers others as it did me then its worth a try.

Is the factory oil conventional or synthetic?

Reason I'm asking is that I also have 7.3 and want to stock one oil if possible. I run a Delo 15w40 in the 7.3.

10w30 is regular, as is the 15w40 they run.

You can run the delo 15w40 with no issues.

In the manual, it stats if you use 5w40 for severe duty. To change every 5k miles. I don't knowing if you'd have to go less with Dino oil. You'd have to check in the manual.
