I'm going to be purchasing a used International 444e which are either out of school busses or an International utility bed truck. The guy has 7 of them from years 99 to 2002 and I get to pick the one I want to replace a worn engine out of my 2001 SD. They are all running and most are driveable. The International utility truck shows under 80k miles and has 2500 hours but that truck runs but can't be driven as it was recently in a minor wreck which didn't affect the engine at all. That truck is the only one that actually has service records and was owned by a municipality. I'm going to probably pick up two engines as I have 3 of these truck that use the 7.3. Is there anything in particular I should look for when picking the engines out? I have a few of them so I kind of know how much blow by the engines have normally. I'll also probably drive them a bit and see if they have any obvious issues. They can't be scanned as they are internationals so the computer is different. I have 5 oil samples from my local Cat dealer that I'm going to sample the oil on the ones I'm interested in. Please advise.
