As thr title states my 2006 6.0 has done this off and on now for last 4 or 5 months.. when i take off about half to wot it'll make a weird whining under the dash.. for lack of better description it kinda sounds like low pitched supercharger but it dusnt following the rpms like a bad sterring pump our 7.3 likes to do that its not like that, it stays the same untill jst before it shuts off it crescendos then quits.. a lot a the time if i hit the brake good it will quit making the noise.

Does a bad degas bottle cap make strange noises when its junk?
Could it be ABS module because my brakes have been acting goofy for few months to. somtimes the pedal will be firm then all of a sudden fall away and catch again closer to the firewall... its really strange never loose brakes i just don't really like it..

Thanks ahead!!

Maybe power steering pump? That would affect braking as well. Try taking the belt off for just a second and see if it still does it.

I could do that but the problem is it only makes that noise when im under a load, it does sound like a tensioner or fan clutch isnt liking life when its hot in the summer and im towing.. Again our 7.3 did/does make that noise too. I'll have to keep trying to track them down.. btw only 76 or 77k miles on the 6L

Try replacing the coolant tank cap if you think it's leaking causing the whining
