I hope I'm posting this is the right section.

I've got a 03 with 270k miles no issues **knock on wood** my thing is in ~6 months money will be tigher than usual so i wanna pre plan.... should I park it and do a rebuild on the motor
Or look for a another 6.0 motor to set in the garage and rebuild.

So what would you do?

Also what all should I buy to to a rebuild
Thanks

Chances are a complete rebuild is not necessary. With that milege, I'd for sure replace the lifters... so basically do your headstuds and have the heads checked for cracks and get some fresh valveguides/seals...

the only time I've seen bearing issues is when junk tuners were used and had pre-ignition issues, causing excessive pressure on the bearings when they werent ready... this ofcourse can be told by spray patterns on the pistons..

Thanks for the input!!
That was actually one of my questions because a buddy of mine said the bearings would need to be replaced but I figure there would be symptoms of bearings wearing out.
It never had a programmer on it til it's 200k range. Then the programmer was set with Vivian tuning

run a compression test, with a real gauge. Find out if compression loss is an issue or not. Is oil consumption a problem? It might benefit from injectors at that age. Many gas engines if the valves and guides are done, begin sucking more oil past the rings, so good base compression is a good idea. When it comes apart it would probably be a good idea to look at the water pump. how is your oil/coolant delta.
If its not burning oil, smoking, or showing other symptoms leave it alone and just drive it. 270 is a nice number, but doesn't necessarily mean it's on its last legs.

I will have to do the compression test.
It does not burn oil what's so ever, the only time it ever smokes (besides when I'm getting on it rolling some coal :D) is one quick white puff on startup .....

My deltas are never more than 9* off
