Are there any decent mt's out there to be had for $1000 or less?
I need tires but have to keep it at a grand.
I have found duratracs and the st maxx in 275/70r18 but I'd prefer an mt. Thanks

Thanks! I had looked at the fierce but haven't heard much about them. How do they hold up longevity wise? I have never heard of the amps or the mastercrafts, I'll have to look into those. I'm trying to decide wether needs and skepticism justify the mt's. I don't go offroad alot but when I do, It tends to be at the farm pouring down rain to check fencing, or somebody calling saying they are stuck and need a pull, those aside I'll explore forest roads and hunt.

Fwiw I was very surprised with the mastercrafts. I needed tires in a hurry and I was low on cash so they ended up being the cheapest I found. When I left the tire shop I was surprised that at 70mph road noise was almost non existent. I didn't do a whole lot off road except pulling a couple trailers through fields but I never had a problem. I also don't know about longevity as I ended up wrecking my truck with only about 10k on the tires but they were wearing very well. For the money I wouldn't hesitate to run them again.

97stroker thanks for the info, I'll definitely have to check them out. That's the same situation I'm in...low on cash and need tires. Sorry about your truck!

Thanks for the info. I had landed a deal on mastercrafts but haven't heard back yet. So far I've narrowed it down for sure to the fierce, st maxx, or duratrac. If the guy gets back to me itll be mastercraft. Now just searching websites to try and find the best deal possible.

I have duratracs on my 99 explorer and they surprise me offroad. Wearing very well also, although that's on a fairly light vehicle.

I'd probably get another set for pavement driving and light off-road use. Don't expect to tackle anything serious with these under the weight of a diesel truck. We have a lot of clay and if it's pouring down rain it gets slick as **** out here. They did okay, but I wasn't blown away. For the price, they were a good tire.

I just bought Toyo MTs for my rig. I run a much narrower tire 255/85r16. It was a hair over 1200 out the door from discount and they price match the lowest price I could find. So far a very quiet MT. I dont even hear them on the highway rolling 70.
