I'm installing a new heavier duty driveshaft in my 97 F350 CCLB. Got everything figured out except for how to attach the transfer case end.

The flange on my BW4407 has a small pilot of 2". I cannot find anyone who makes a 1410 series flange yoke with a 2" pilot and is tapped for the four 12mm bolts.

Spicer makes a 3-2-1819 with 2" pilot only it's drilled 1/2 instead of being tapped M12.

Spicer also makes a 3-2-1709 that is tapped M12 only it has a pilot of 2.680.

I've got a couple options and would like some input on them.

Option 1 is to get the 3-2-1819 and install M12 helicoils. Tap drill for the M12 helicoil is .492, so the existing 1/2 drilled holes will work okay. I'm unsure is this is an acceptable practice in this particular application. I'm also aware that this is now a "custom" part so if it ever fails while I'm away from home an off the shelf replacement is not available.

Option 2 is to machine a ring that will adapt the 2.680 pilot of the 3-2-1709 flange to my truck's existing 2" pilot. I'm leaning towards this option right now. It's the cheapest and easiest for me at the moment.

Option 3 is to see if the transfer case flange from a SD with the correct pilot will swap in place of the stock one on my 4407. I've no idea what size and spline count the 4407 or the SD is. Can anyone comment on this? It could be as simple as removing the nut and pulling the old flange off and putting the new on on? This would be my preferred option.

Watcha reckon folks?

When you speak of the pilot of 2", are you speaking of the recessed center in the back of the yolk or the bolt pattern of the 4 bolts. I thought I had measured this before and the bolt pattern was the same?

Gotcha, I had never pulled it off to check that. I can't see why the flanges/shafts cannot be swapped from a SD T-case. I may have to see if someone has one laying around that is trash.

Have you tried talking to tom woods they may be able to help you out with this as well. Not sure but they do flanges and yolks and driveshafts and put out some really good stuff.

After some research I have found that I think both SD and OBS 4407 cases use a 32 square cut spline on the rear output shaft of the t-case
